Any ideas what might have caused this?

Hi everyone. I've got an EJ DE89L I've had for about 4 weeks and I just noticed that the chrome finish appears to be marred or perhaps flaking off in one of the corners of the baseplate. I routinely dip my razor in alcohol after each use. Could the alcohol cause this? I can't imagine that would be the cause but I don't recall seeing the blemish until now. Any ideas what might have caused this other than perhaps I just missed seeing the blemish when I first got the razor?

it was probably improperly cleaned before finishing.
even a fingerprint on the base metal can cause the finish metal to improperly adhere.
it looked ok, until you started to routinely use it.
    I'd see about returning it.

I spray my razors with alcohol probably once a month, and that's only after I've gotten tired of using my little shammy I use to clean my razor after each use.

Most likely it's defective chrome plating. I'd contact vendor about returning for a replacement

Glad you're getting an exchange. For future reference, it's okay to dip it in alcohol after each use. I do it after every shave.

EJ takes plating loss seriously. They or their vendor will correct the situation.

I dip mine in 91% alcohol after every use to dry the water off and I haven't had that problem.

My razors get a spritz of isopropyl alcohol as part of cleaning after every shave.

I agree with the others. Chrome plating is a pretty hard metal and should not be effected by an alcohol bath.

Hope you receive your replacement soon!

I agree that it sounds defective. Alcohol wouldn't hurt chrome plating.

Vendors will not accept a used razor. Contact EJ and them will send you a replacement part.
