and Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve for a CCS!

The Clubman Special Reserve is my favorite aftershave. I just discovered how well it goes with the cool refreshing CO Bigelow creme. Aces!

the Matador seems just a touch more efficient than the cadet. to me anyway.
I like the cadet. but it is very large. much larger than the Gillettes I've been using. just takes a little gear shifting.

Yes that's what I was wanting to know. If the cadet isn't super nice I will trade it for a matador. I'm hoping it's similar to my fatip

 

the Matador gives me very nice shaves.
the Fatip gets very close, but bites me if I don't watch very closely.
the Matador seems much friendlier to me.
I've only had the cadet for two shaves. for its price, it feels like a very nice razor.

 

Bought a 10 pack of the gray Personna comfort coated disposables at Dollar Tree. Why? Dunno...maybe because I was going on four days of a do-it-yourself hobo kit and thought it'd be interesting. Was not expecting much. Used VDH and the Omega brush as usual.

Result: after three passes, first two WG, last one AG, I am absolutely, could-not-be-more BBS, and without any nicks or irritation whatsoever. It was an splendid shave, hands down better than my Dorco Trac II carts give me and on par with any shave I've had in recent memory. Only drawback is the hollow handle, which feels odd in a hand used to vintage (makes me want to try their blue version of the Good News). And the lube strip puts out copious amounts of goop, but it makes for a smooth shave, imo. I don't even need Lucky Tiger or anything as a result.

Seriously, gents, no joke...if you got a $ Tree near you, at .10 per shave it's worth it just for the experiment. If you don't like it, donate the other 9 to the local food pantry.

When I've been skulking around the local antique shops and such, I notice quite a few SE razors. But, I always pass them by. So, if I was to look into a SE razor, what would you recommend for a SE Noob?

 

My suggestion is to start with the GEM 1912. That is the one on the bottom left. The GEM Micromatics are very desirable. I have the Open Comb, Clog-pruf, and Bullet Tip. They are twist to open razors. I like them all. The one at the top is the bullet tip. The bottom right is the G-Bar. It is kind of in the middle for me for preference. The Ever-Ready 1924 (middle left) and the Ever-Ready 1914 (middle right) are pretty aggressive razors for me. You can get a good shave, but you have to be very careful. I just finished a week with my ER 1924 and had excellent results, but I never got in a hurry. On March 24, I will use the ER 1914. Last year was the 100th anniversary of its patent. It is mostly for show in my house. I pull it out once a year for a single shave.
So my suggestions: GEM 1912 and the GEM Micromatics. I think you will get the best shaves from these. Fortunately, they tend to be pretty cheap, so you can get some good deals. Post - Cold water rinse and out the door!

It's official. The Kai in the Superspeed is the BOMB!! Fourth day and this morning's shave was done half asleep after an extra long day yesterday and an extra early start today. Two passes to near perfection, cold water to wake up a bit more with the coffee and out the door I went. Even now my face feels smooth and I couldn't be happier that I discovered this blade. I will try it in a different razor or two in a couple of weeks just to see how it compares. Excellent four days though.
Time out is over! Tomorrow it's the beginning of week three of Vintage and Carbon. The 46-50 Tech and Treet Silver is up next!
