Received two razors today - bought as a small lot.

The Ever Ready that I don't really need/wanted looked very nice in a complete case kit with two blade holders and a version of the handle that I don't think I have:


The Durham Duplex #300 was, on the other hand, the razor I was interested in - and it is absolutely stunning. LOVE that handle.
It might be a personal contender for purtiest razor owned...
Can't wait to get some blades later on and give it a good go!

It came in what might be the original paper box, some blades and the original black plastic cover that you slide over the razor head when storing it.

They are both stunning but the Durham Duplex is truly something else. Look forward to your shave reports when it comes up in your worksheet.

Thanks it is much wider than your regular DE razor so it will be really interesting to see how it feels to shave with it.

Thanks, now I just need to decide if I am brave enough to shave using the "Duplex shuffle technique"

(Duplex shuffle technique:
Due to the shape of the 300/Dorset, etc these razors can be see as just a SE razor (as turning the handle around and shaving with the other side would seem cumbersome.
But - back in the days a technique called the Duplex Shuffle emerged where people were using the razor to shave downwards for the WTG pass and then immediately, without changing the grip on the handle (just a slight change in angle), moving the razor upwards to do an ATG pass).

It's an interesting concept I'm sure to try out...but if worse comes to worse...it'll be like using a SE for me

Got back from Phoenix tonight. Unseasonably hot there. Good food, good baseball, bad shopping.

It started off innocently enough at the shavingcreams.com brick and mortar shop. Prices weren't that great but they had a nice selection of hardware and software. They have a sister cigar shop next door which I checked out a little. Pretty neat places. Grabbed a couple things because my samples ran out and I like them both:



Then it was off to old downtown Glendale and antique shop hopping. Found a bottle I like, not sure what it is, don't really care. It was cheap and I was happy:



Still pretty tame and under control. Went to another antique shop and it was pretty bare except for some SR's and SE's but they had a tray at the counter with freshly hauled shaving gear! Poked through it all but sadly I already had the DE's they had available - but they were for a good price. I went for the Old Spice mug - looks old? - and these 3 brushes for possible restores. All for under $35 and I was a good boy and left stuff behind:



And that was all for the antique stores. Feeling pretty good about myself. Not spending much and have some decent stuff to take home. Then it got dumb at Rubinov's:



That store is evil but really cool! Lots of cheap and interesting things plus a good selection of hardware and software to boot. Almost bought a slant to try out.

Then I went to Razor Emporium and ugh. More on that later after I can deal with the shame and have post-photos I guess. I really need to refrain now until 2016.

The bottle of Masters Bay Rum I bought locally a few years ago was about 11 bucks.

They had other Bay Rums and IMO it was the best of the bunch.

I much prefer it over the Clubman Bay Rum. Way too much clove.

Thanks for the link. I saw it in another thread recently but didn't dig it up yet. After a quick look I think mine looks like the one called Hull Pottery Mug 01 - 1938 to 1941. None of the glass mugs have the same ship/ribbon.
