3/19/2015 Thrifty Thursday! Prep: Hot shower with Nivea Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO Razor: Stahly Live Blade, Hamburg Concave Quick Cutter straight razor Blade: Pol Silver Super Iridium (5) Brush: Black Badger Soap: Williams Mug Soap After: Home made ASB, Aqua Velva Ice Blue after shave Cologne: Aqua H2O Happy Thursday! I soaked the Williams puck in hot water while I took a shower. I then used some of the soak water for the bowl lathering. The badger whipped up the Williams into a slick lather. The lather was not thick, but it did not do the disappearing trick either. The Stahly and the Quick Cutter did their jobs well. The AV brought some chill and the Aqua H2O will have me smelling good all day. All in all it was a Darn Fine Shave. Have a blessed day!

Excellent Ferox (I wish it were) Friday I'm dealing with a sinus infection and bronchitis, so I can't really smell the soap, but Ferox is a favorite. I think Fine Platinum matches up pretty well, as I've used it in the past. The Beast very easily whipped up yogurty lather to set up my whiskers for their encounter with der Vorschlaghammer. It did not go well for them, but it went great for my face. Smooth and easy. Prep: Proraso White Soap: B&M Ferox Brush: Brothers Bristles Beast Plisson Razor: der Vorschlaghammer Blade: Voskhod (3) AS: Fine Platinum
Improved PDP Rapira Platinum Lux blade slim adjustable Today was a very nice 3 pass shave with excellent results. No nicks, cuts, weepers, or irritation. I have spent the last couple of months going through a selection of the Russian blades. IMHO, they are all great shavers. I still like the Ladas a little better than the rest, followed by the Voskhod. The others, 3 types of Rapira and the Sputnik, follow closely behind. I would not have been disappointed if I had chosen to use any one of these exclusively.

Razor: Merkur 34c HD Brush: Jerusalem Olive Wood/WD Silvertip 24/48 Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue Cream: Seifenglatt Shaving Soap 'Barber Shop' Blade: Feather (2) Pre shave: Tree Hut Shea Mango Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Neutrogena Balm, Old Spice Lime original Shulton AS Frosted Glass 1960s The Merkur 34c HD does give me some burn if I over buff, but you can get away with doing that because this razor is so mild. The Seifenglatt is very soft like a croup. Nice scent with a hint of liquorice not too strong. Lathers up well with the Silvertip. I screwed in the Feather, and checked the alignment and was good to go for my first pass WTG. A little rinse to see how we are doing and relather for a XTG pass on my face and ATG on my neck. Some more lather for touch up on my neck and we are done. Warm water rinse and pat dry. Some WH and after cleanup some Neutrogena Balm. Nice smooth shave with just a little burn. Now for the Vintage Shulton Old Spice Lime AS. This is the real deal and it is awesome. Highly recommend. The color reminds me of a Margarita. Ops! I think Jimmy heard me. What the heck, start the weekend early! Come on fellow Parrot Heads!
Thor's Day: Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Invigorating Face Wash, TSD Jasmine Sambac preshave balm Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger Soap: Ginger's Garden Grass Stain Menthol Snow Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum (2) Passes: WTG, XTG, XTG (4, 5, 6) Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma alum, Dickinson's WH, Speick AS splash Cologne: Burberry Brit by Burberry Two days without shaving, for various reasons, gave me plenty of stubble to mow down today. For some reason, I had a bit more trouble building the lather with my Ginger's Garden soap than I can ever recall; perhaps this is indicative of the puck running low. Regardless, the shave was comfortable and blood-free, while being as close as I can expect with this razor without an ATG pass, so DFS+ results. I reached for the Speick just because it had seemed so long since I used it, the same reason I spritzed on the Burberry Brit afterwards.
19mar15 Well..... Not so good today... First use on my boar brush. I LIKE IT. First use of my black handle (s4)...... Gillette SB(4) And one addition to the end of today's shave, the styptic pencil. Everything was going great until the knob on the razor decided to loosen up a bit. Let's just say I took a fair amount of skin off my chin, twice.... Let's just say I'm glad I got a pretty decent shave because I probably won't be able to for at least a day or two, depending on the size of the scab. Also, who's bright idea was it to put four glue dots on the blade when packaging? If all Gillettes are like this, whether they do good or not, I won't be using them after my trial pack is gone.

SOTD 3/18 I posted a pic earlier. Is it possible to get a "bad" blade? Today was a miserable, painful shave. I used a Gillette 7 O'clock Green (Super Stainless), same as I've done for a week or so. Brand new blade, but right away I noticed it felt rough and seemed to be catching in my beard. I dismissed the problem and kept going...BIG mistake! I ended up with a half-dozen weepers and my face was red and irritated. Alum block, my wife's skin cream, cool water, nothin helped. It's noon and my face is still red and sore. I guess I need to learn to trust my instincts. :-(
Sorry about your shave. I did have a double take on your picture. At first glance I thought you rolled up a little mother nature for a preshave
