One thing's fer sure: after handling this stuff; you better make sure you wash your hands before using the bathroom. Do not ask how I know this.
I enjoy menthol but don't care for it every day. I usually have a rotation of 5-6 aftershaves and I normally have one menthol in the mix. My current menthol after shave is Gabel's sta-cool. It is the give my wife a break from smelling aftershave, aftershave. It feels great on the skin, it contain eucalyptus and spearmint oil. The scent is very short lived. Starts with the eucalyptus scent, then fades to the spearmint, then goes away for all practical purposes in 30 minutes or less. This way I can still have the aftershave feel but give my wife a night off from having to experience an aftershave scent.
I too enjoy arctic chill-just the right amount of menthol for a cream, it's there doing it's job but it's not overpowering. I don't mind a real healthy dose of menthol in an aftershave splash but I like things a little milder in a shaving cream.
I recently came across an artisan vendor called Chiseled Face Groomatorium. (No I am not a shill for them, just really like their stuff) I haven't tried their shave soap of the same name, but they make an after shave called Cryogen. Holy snap... picture bobbing for apples in an ice filled ice chest and then being immediately dropped face first from a helicopter into the snow at the top of Mt Everest...... Yeah, it's that cold! Kinda makes your eyes water and you wonder if your cheeks will shatter if they hit a solid object. (Your face will look like Jack Nicholson at the end of The Shining! !) It's a bit too intense for me most of the time, but if you're a "menth" head, it might be for you!
I lathered up with Stirling Orange Chill, and finished with 2 big slobbers of Osage Rub this morning. Menthol? Thank you, I believe I will.
There really aren't as many things available here in Canada as you think, my friend. Almost everything I have was bought from outside this country. We can't even get Palmolive stuff here. I would have loved to get that Cryogen soap, but it's impossible for me to.
Isn't Italianbarber in Canada? Is it not cheap to buy stuff from Ebay and amazon? Shipping across the border can't be that bad, or is it? You can always add menthol crystals to your non mentholated soaps =P I added some to clubman and lucky tiger, but in smaller bottles a la 25ml. Not inside the 14/16oz bottles =P
I have mixed feelings about menthol. I like the scent, is refreshing, but i don't like it when i can feel it. For example, i don't enjoy too much Proraso green, but i love Palmolive.
