  1. Ahh Maan! Nope, I don't think I want to get hook on something thats that hard to aquire ammo for....
  2. I have a question for those familiar with single edge razors. I currently have a Schick Injector Type I, a Schick Injector Hydro Magic, and a Mongoose. In looking a the various photos from the SOTD threads, I have noticed many feature GEM razors. I am thinking about adding a GEM razor to the collection. Which ones should I start with or avoid? What about a Feather Weight or MMBT ?
  3. @clint64 No need to avoid any of them.
Some say the MMOC is super agressive and might suggest a 1912 model because it isn't so rough. My experience is just the opposite. Of all my Gem SEs I am more likely to get closest to BBS withe the MMOC.
I found the Feather Weight too light and PIFed it.
The Clog Pruf and Pushbutton are mid-agressive; maybe the best to start with.
The G Bar has some nice heft, not too agressive.
The Lather Catcher is just flat out great.
  4. Steve, thanks so much for the recommendations.

  5. Hey @clint64 ,

I have several SE's that I can send your way for a test drive. The only way you're going to know for sure is by actually using them on your face. Just shoot me a PM if your interested.

  8. Atta Boy JR! Ladies and Gentlemen, we see here a 'live' example of the generous attitude that makes this scene so unique....
Also I can't wait to see what you score Clint...You have to let us know....It wasn't that long ago (about 2 years to the day) that I made a comment similar to yours and Hoosier Trooper Tom blasted off an SE care package to me and it changed my life....

  9. I agree the offer from JR was very generous. Being able to try several GEM razors is going to be a real bonus. I'll post up photos of what I am going to try and then post up daily in the SOTD thread as I test drive the razors.

On a different note, I picked up a couple of Schick Injectors in hopes of find a travel razor for some upcoming motorcycle trips. Had my first shave with an Injector today. Used a Type I and was surprised at how easy it was to use and the shave was fantastic.

  10. I've had a love affair with the I2 since I saw my Pop shave with one when I was 4...Come on....Gold, shiney, Hydro-magic lever, ejector-schlack schlack...you could rifle off blades from that injector dispenser....whats not for a 4 year old to fall in love with....About 10 years later my Pop gave me that very razor to learn on....and the rest is history...I was crying about how much I missed that I2 one day and "StingraysRock" sent me one about 5 years ago...Boom! The romance continues....I would have to say, if 'There could be only one..." The Schick I2 is my "Highlander" razor.....But as far as favorite shavers.....its on the short list with my ER1914 and ER 1924....those 2 ERs are neck and neck, and I guess my Micro-matics are close after that...and 1912's....

  11. @JR Reyes Thanks to JR I received a package in today's mail containing a GEM Feather Weight, a 1924, a GEM MMOC, and a GEM 1912 for me to take a test drive. Really looking forward to trying out these razors over the next several weeks.

The G6 is immaculate. The box and instructions are perfect and the razor still had the copper dummy blade in it. The only thing missing is the key. I got the lot for the G6 and the US schick blades. Don't really need another G1 and I have no idea what I will do with the band razor. Anyway tomorrow the E2 gets a break because I'll be giving the G6 a spin.

  14. I am two shaves into my first experiment with Schick Injectors and couldn't be happier. Already shopping for a few more models to try. They are super precise working around my goatee...
  15. HAPPY 101st To the worst enemy a whisker ever had....
And ONE OF THE TRUELY GREATEST RAZORS EVER....
    Todays Shave
    Colgate Mug Soap
    Omega 10029
1914 Ever Ready Little Lather Catcher
    GEM Stainless Coated d2
AS Cocktail: The Veg, Clubman Vanilla, Aqua Velva Musk

As always the 1914 was perfect....To say I love this razor would be an under statement....

This pic is from a couple months ago...The 1914 is always a character and this was all it's idea....

  17. Yo 'J'...thats one fine Birthday Ax you have there....Thats one of the first generation 1914s and it looks like you picked it up new, at the local DrugStore last Christmas....Congrats, thats one sweet looking Little Lather Catcher....Sure doesn't look like a Centenarian...
  18. This is my Pop's birthyear SE razor....It sure gets alot more use in my shavecave than my birthyear razor....I always thought the 1924's were nice looking, and the forward hinge sleek design was ultra hip, but after my first shave with one I was completely smitten...I had no idea what I had been missing...
  19. I'm with you my mustachioed compadre....After using the OCMM the first time I was shocked at how easy it was to get a great irritation free shave from...That design for me was kind of idiot proof...it forced me to do things right...but in all fairness I had read articles around here and elsewhere about how to handle an SE..But the Micro matic holds the blade locked at the right angle if you just lay it down....Yep....I'm a fan...But the 1924 really knock it out of the park for me....I've come to love the 1914 as maybe my fav...but it took a 30 day rule kind of thing for me to get a handle on it...But now The ER's 1914 and 1924s are probably my favorite SEs and the OCMM and Clog-pruf are my favorite TTOs bar none....Although I do like to take the Feather Weight out every now and then for a high speed spin around the olde chops...reminds me of my favorite injectors....}8^))

PS You know, the only real problem I have with the Micromatics is that I have a thing for Vintage and these guys are so Modern....Young whipper snapper razors...
