Ok, not as bone-chillingly frigid a set-up as I usually would select but still pretty darned cold. The Ingram Green cream from Egypt has the same great scent, super-rich lather, and good skincare as the UK version of Ingram but there's definitely a difference in the cooling effect. This Egyptian version is more strongly-mentholated. The Gold Bond is waiting to give me some additional cooling, and the Floid Classic aftershave will finish the job for me. I hope this new Sharp will perform as well as the one I just threw out.

Chris at RazorPlate asked me if I was using this custom fatty and I had to admit that I've been "saving" it. So, to celebrate the near end of Tax Season I'm gonna use my pride and joy through April 15.


I have used this beauty, but only sparingly. It shaves wonderfully. I'm hoping to continue my streak of 2-pass DFS shaves.

Cleaned up the black handle Superspeed and put it in my travel kit. Used it for two weeks with three different blades. Going to give Waltham carbon blade a spin tomorrow morning, we will see how that goes. My frankenpuck consists of little bits of Arko stick, RazoRock SC and Pine Tar soap.

SOTD 03/30/15

I'm going to try to make Sunday my straight razor day.

So razor was a Dovo carbon steel 5/8 Straight Razor for 2 passes, WTG and XTG. I did a 3rd pass touchup ATG with my EJ87 loaded with an Astra SP. The ATG is still a bit scary with the straight. No nicks!!

The preshave was jut a hot water rinse. I used my Vulfix pure badger brush with Proraso green soap. Mixed the lather in an old Geo F Trumpers wooden bowl.

The straight razor shave feels great. Definitely was 100% focused throughout the shave .

Post shave was a hot water rinse, followed by a cold water rinse, alum block (my top lip was irritated a bit), and an Art of Shaving after shave lotion in Ocean Kelp.

This is the last week of my GEM/ER SE Razor Month, and it's time for the GEM G-bar.

The Van Der Hagen Deluxe Shaving Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh WC1 Silver Tip Badger Brush. Two passes with my GEM G-bar SE razor and a Treet Super SE blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Lemon WH and then Pinaud Clubman after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Jim, I tried a cold water shave the other day. I really didn't notice any significant difference. What do you think the difference is?

Time for a little free form ...

Try it for thirty days and see if you like it. I was thinking this morning while I was shaving, "Man, it is 20 degrees out there and you are shaving with cold water: really cold water. What's up with that?" I guess I just like it. I start by splashing my face with cold water and then washing it with my face wash and rinsing it clean. I load my brush which has been soaking in cold water and lather my face. I shave and rinse with cold water. It is all just refreshing. I think it makes the hairs stand up more for a cleaner shave, and it minimizes irritation. About a month ago, I broke out my home made scuttle and did a hot water shave. It was nice, but I returned to cold water the next day. It's your shave so enjoy it your way. Unless you try something new, you will never know.
