I tend to hold DE razors pretty close to the head, but have had no problems with the balance on this razor, even though it's the largest I own. Even holding it at the second 'indent' to go ATG on my throat this AM was comfortable and well-balanced.
Just picked this up from my guy at the local antique store. Need some help identifying it. I see no date code. So I'm assuming its a 1940s superspeed. In a cardboard box with the speedpack blade holder.
Excellent!!! Yup, late 40's SS. beautiful condition. I got one about a month ago also and used it today for the first time. Perfect shave on two days growth. Also, yours is in a lot better condition than mine. Someone used pliers on my handle when they couldn't get it open. I was able to open it with a little cleaning and oil.
I just looked at your pictures again and am amazed at the condition of the box..... I'm speechless and wish I could find more like that.
The picture in the lid is for a 1947. If the razor matches the graphic and does not have notches on the center bar, it's a '47. Nice find!
The box shouts 47 Superspeed. The key to telling is how does it look when it is open. On the left 47 superspeed. On the right, 48 or 49. Notice the notches on the center bar.
Made with Guinness and Goats Milk. Can't really give you a full scent description since I haven't used it yet. I've learned from the other ML soaps I have that they need to be bloomed and lathered to get the real scent going. I will say this, you can definitely get the Stout scent and a bit of a caramel note in the container. Very interested to use this one soon.
Stumbled upon another WTS/WTT site last night and managed to pick up more shave soap: Castle Forbes Lime soap Maggards Orange Menthol Taconic Bay Rum
Received an order from Maggard's today: An eye loupe to help an old guy read the fine print. A refill puck of Arlington that's now on deck to replace a dwindling puck of one of my favorite, warm weather soaps. And a couple of seasonal spring soaps from Barrister & Mann. They'll be my first experience with B&M, and let me check off #4 on my list of 'Five products to try in 2015', leaving only Valobra remaining before the end of the year.
So i cleaned the 47 superspeed i picked up today. I usually have to polish all my razors but this one is almost mint. All i had to do was soak it and clean it with scrubbing bubbles.
After 4+ weeks in transit the package from India finally arrived containing my first bottle of the Anherb ASB! If you read the internet for comments on this balm you'll see that there is quite the following/fan base around it. Not that I needed to shave this evening BUT I did slap some of this on. Initial reaction: - A faint very pleasing smell - maybe Sandalwood (Ha, later I read the ingredients and it is sandalwood). Very nice, - A slight cooling effect right away but I couldn't find any menthol in the ingredient list. Speaking about ingredients; Posts in 2008 and 2009 indicates that the ingredients were: Aloe Vera, Menthol, Alum, Olivem 400. The bottle I have here, in 2015, shows: Aqua, Stearic Acid, Carbopol, Vitamin E, Acetate, Sandalwood Oil, Allantoin, Perfume Not sure if it's reformulated or if there is now greater transparency into the ingredients (it has for instance always contained sandalwood extract but that wasn't listed 8 years ago). Also, not a 100% sure on how the product can be considered Natural if it contains Allantoin for instance. Regardless, great skin feel, good moisturizing and I'm really happy I got hold of a bottle and will try it out for some time to see how it works for me.
