I hope you heal up quickly. That razor can be handful, that's for sure. Every dark cloud has a silver lining. I absolutely agree! I'm a much better DE shaver after using my Feather Artist Club. Your Red Tip is a great looking razor, BTW.
I'm so sorry to hear that, and I do hope you heal quickly. I have done the same thing with my Feather Artist Club. Just placing the blade against my skin with too much pressure or at the wrong angle has cut me a few times. Take care of yourself.
Focus- Injector Razors Pre- Hot water wash Razor- Schick J1 Blade- Chinese Schick Soap- Haslinger Sheep Milk Brush- Semogue 1305 Post- Cold water rinse, alum as needed Aftershave- Razorock Don Marco So I got a good seven shaves out of the one blade. Also continuing to improve on the neck area... I will be switching to a more modern M39 injector tomorrow night. Have a great evening gentlemen!
I have had a couple close calls but finally paid the price today. It's healing nicely. Or it will. It stopped bleeding about an hour afterward and with only one bandage. So not quite Sweeney Todd worthy.
Sweet closeup! Now you're really using the tools. It's a lot like hitting a golf ball. It is better to hit it well, allowing the swinging club to move the ball...nice work!
@Drygulch @NCoxSTL @wristwatchb Much respect for going old school, and sharing it all. Stuff I have yet to try. Hope no one scars too badly!
I really like the skin feel of the injector shave, and the blade life is cool too! Once I got the blade angles right, it almost does it by itself. The thick blade really cuts efficiently with all the gap/exposure!
Arko April!! April 8, Day 8, (day 1, blade 2), the mighty mighty MTO! A little rough, just like the last blade on Day one, but the divinely inspired, lemon scented, straight Turkish goodness saved the day for....more automatic 2 pass smoothness of the BFS variety! Have a great Thursday!
Vie-Long 12705B Haslinger Ringelblumen Merkur 39c Voskhod (2) + (2) "Spice Bomb" Bay Rum Voskhod's 2nd use didn't go too well, it gave up in the middle of the first pass and I replaced it with another second hand Voskhod which struggled all the way to the end of the shave. Definitely not a repeat use blade in my case. The bay rum is DIY in an interesting bottle I got from my kids. The vaporizer on it is quite good for an AS and it looks interesting albeit a bit cheap. SWMBO approved my creation with a "You smell very nice!" Merkur is definitely my favorite razor now, even with a blunt blade I had a good shave with minimal neck irritation.
Day 9 of the FB focus: Homemade PS Oil Vie-long Horsehair Brush Chiseled Face Sherlock FB w/Gillette Silver Blue set on 4 Tabac AS Another good shave. I think I am getting the FB figured out. Still not sure about the Silver Blues.
Razor: Bluebeards Revenge Blade: Wilkinson Black Brush: WD Marble Handle Silvertip, 24/67 Cream: Bluebeards Revenge A/S: Lucky Tiger Day 6 Was busy yesterday and didn't shave until 7:30 PM. Was working with changing the angle of attack with the Bluebeards Revenge razor. Been missing some stubble under the jaw on both sides. Went pretty well. I'll try make my own PS oil today (thanks to Sara-s). never used PS before.
Jumping back in with a shift to cold water shaving. Results are encouraging after 1 head shave and 2 face shaves.
Arko April Focus - CJB Kamisori April 9, 2015 - Week 2 Day 5 Prep - Hot shower and towel Brush - Omega Pro 48 Soap - Arko Razor - Soviet era DE Blade - (1) Post - Alum and Cold rinse Taking a day to let everything recover from yesterday's cut with the CJB. Decided to try out the recently acquired Soviet razor. Put in a Sputnik for that total Russian shave and made a pass. Not horrible but one nick under the chin. The blade gap isn't exactly even across this thing, and it's different on each side. Typical Soviet engineering specs. Did a second pass with my Superspeed and Voskhod just to avoid further problems and called it good. Barely DFS but it works for today.
Aggressive April - Day 6 Prep: Hot shower w/ Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap: TSD Barber Shoppe shave stick Brush: Omega 13522 Razor: Cadet OC Blade: Astra SP Post: Witch Hazel, Nivea Sensitive Balm Scent: Tommy Bahama Very Cool Went 2 pass XTG and ATG today. I thought I was already at the best angle for the Cadet, and found by happy accident that I needed to go quite a bit shallower. I think my shaves with it should improve immensely over the next few days.
04/09/2015 Prep – MR GLO Razor – Mongoose B2 with Jürgen Hempel Ti Blade – Feather Pro (6) Brush – Rudy Vey with TGN Finest Lather – Catie’s Bubbles Santal Sensuelle Post - Witch Hazel and CC Sandalwood AS One ongoing comment with the Mongoose from many users has been the razor is a touch on the mild side. Using the Feather Super Pro blades does increase the blade exposure and make the razor more aggressive. I tried this option out and had an exceptionally close shave. In fact my face still had a tingly feeling 24 hours after the shave. The Feather Super was just too much blade for me as a daily shaver. I decided to shim the razor for today's shave in an effort to split the difference between the regular Feather and the Super. Based off of today's shave, this is the ticket for me. Fantastic 2 pass shave with very little clean up at all. Loved the lather and scent of the Catie's Bubbles and it paired great with the CC Sandalwood AS.
It does and they are deceptively sharp for such a thick blade. My biggest challenge was letting the blade do the work. The injectors are so light that they almost feel weightless. You have to really concentrate on not using too much pressure....
So true, the weight was the biggest hurdle for me after using the Mongoose. The injectors are a fantastic razor in particular around tight spots.
