As Rick would say NUFF SAID! A great razor and it speaks for it's self. If it were a few dollars less, and showed a little more leg, it would be a perfect 10.
Love this razor.Considered by many to be the best. It can be used effectively by everyone from a Newbie to an Experienced Wet Shaver.Aggressiveness is medium. It is a reliable 2 piece razor ....with nothing to go wrong. I really enjoy using short handled heavy razors. The weight does all of the work...and there is absolutely no need to apply any pressure. Supplied in gold and chrome finishes...this razor can give results rivaling the infamous slantbar. If you don't have one already...don't fight it.....you won't regret it!
I just got one of these in gold the other day and I hate to admit this but it is making my Futur look bad. I really like the look and feel of this razor. I'm going to have to do a side by side test with the Futur for a couple of days with the same blade type. Left/Right on one day and Right/Left on another because shaving with just the right hand makes a difference on angles and pressure for each side of the face. The Futur gives me really close shaves without nicking or weeping and I've gotten real good at cutting down razor burn. The first day with the HD gave me very little redness. I am never going to get zero because I have faired sensitive skin. Water alone gives me rashes. So, all in all, I am impressed. This razor really should be set as the "Newbie" razor of choice in a starter pack.
I must admit I'm very fond of Merkur fixed head razors. The HD is one of my top three Merkurs; the other two are the 1904 and the Classic. I am using the HD more and more it seems. You know how we all seem to go through phases with our shaving stuff. I love the heft and chunk of the HD. It just feels like a precision tool and I get consistently good shave with this most practical of double edge razors. As for the handle length, it is just right for my hands. And a tough chrome finish...what's not to like about the Merkur HD?
Initially, I did not like this razor. It felt too small and did not resemble what I thought a razor would look like from my mind's eye. Also, when using it, I would grip it much tighter than advisable and end up with a cramp in my shaving hand. However, sometimes it's best to let something rest until later so that you can reevaluate after time passes. This is what I did and now I am in love with this razor. IMHO, if you are in a hurry, then reach for this razor- simple, fast, and automatic. I can actually shave w/o thinking -just muscle memory alone gets the job done. Basic, simple, classic- a can't miss. New to wetshaving? then this is the razor for you. An experienced wetshaver? if you don't have this in your rotation, shame on you! Marty
Great rather short razor.. It gives great shaves without any hassle.. Just as good for the beginner or the old experienced shaver.. Apart from being just a tad too short it is a perfect shave-tool. Get one today!
Quality razor from Germany Everything about 34C is perfect; its weight, balance, blade exposure, grip. Even the price is reasonable (at 30 euro). I cannot think of anything negative with this razor. I use it with Derby Extra and the combination works flawlessly.
I have the gold version and I love it. I had many DEs at one point but now only have the HD. I get great consistant shaves every time. And the gold looks great. :happy088
I've been DE shaving for about 7 months now after starting with a 40's style Super Speed. The HD is a good shaver, not perfect, but very good. I was actually able to do a three pass shave and get a DFS without any real problems. I was never able to do that with the Super Speed. The build quality on mine was fine, and it's very affordable at just under $30.00. The short handle which helps me manouver it around my face much like the Super Speed. The handle is thicker and heavier than my Super Speed, which helps me keep a better grip on it when my hand is bothering me. It's a very straightforward razor suitable for a beginner or a more experienced shaver. My HD will definitely keep a prominent place in my rotation.
I've been shaving for a long time but new to DE. The weight and balance give you the confidence to get a great shave even if you've never used a DE razor before and are a little nervous about starting. If you are coming from cartridge or disposable razors this one will let you get a gentle start and advance into bbs shaves every time.
Great Razor This was the first razor I ever bought and one of the last that I perfected. It takes good technique in order to get a good shave without turning your face, or in my case neck, into hamburger meat. Once I did get my technique down I found that it is a very good razor that can deliver whatever kind of shave you want - a quick good enough shave, or a dangerously close BBS. The turning point for me and the Merkur HD was when I started using a Feather blade with it. It's the only blade that can deliver the shave I want in two passes with this razor. Most of the other blades I've tried take an extra pass to get where I want which is somewhere between DFS and BBS.
A perfect razor. All i can say about that razor is that it works fine. The weight of the razor is good, haves a good blade exposure and very user friendly. My favorite at the moment
HD! I think I have found my best razor. There are a few out there I still need to try but the bar has been raised very high since using the HD. All the other reviews cover everything I would have said. Bottom line, get one.
