Does anyone have any pointers on getting old blades. Particularly form the 60s-70s? My results on ebay have mixed results. I already over payed for my Krona so I am not paying 30 bux or more some 74s.

74 are gonna be expensive everywhere, save maybe hit or miss antique stores.

I am open to any other blades - Schick, Gillette whatever.

I'm a little scared of vintage blades.
    reason is;
if I find a brand of vintage blades that give me the best of my life shave. and then can't find a supply of them, I'm stuck with mediocre shaves wishing I had the other ones.
so I'm inclined to stick with what I can restock.

The problem with vintage blades is that you can't be certain as what happened to them over the years. Storage circumstances can be hugely different and therefore the blades can be very in very different states. Mint or crusted with brown gunk and anything in between. And you can't be sure from the look of the package how the state of the blades inside is. It's kinda hit 'n' miss.

I'd say: keep a lookout and maybe you get lucky! :)

If I may ask, are you planning on shaving with them or collecting them?

I`ve been looking at some injector blades on amazon, that makes somewhat of a claim to be coated with tungsten 74 (personna, I think). Just wondering
if they are for real ( or any good) or is it just a marketing tool, the one per customer gimmick may be an indicator, anybody know? The tungsten blades that came with my injector are awesome.
    good blade hunting, billdog2

Those are legit Bill. Those are the injector version of the Personnas DE blades I mentioned. Personna 74*.

Can someone explain the appeal of vintage blades? I don't quite understand...or is it just the novelty of collecting old stuff? Surely a modern blade would be just as good? Just curious... :)

I think it is part and parcel of the enthusiastic approach to collecting. YMMV.:)

I think that in the beginning Gillette, Schick, etc. manufactured razors to sell to the public. Their blade quality matched the quality of their razors, but soon realized that there was more profit in blades than razors and began a massive campaign to make blades as cheaply as possible.... ergo more profit.
    But that`s just my opinion.

Now this is just my opinion but: When a company builds a widget with a knob that you turn to make it work, surely they will make the knob as well as the widget...ok? Now they find out later that the people need to buy the widget once but the knobs are perishable, and they need to buy them again and again.
So where is the most profit? The tungsten blades that came with a razor I bought was made back when the razor was made and the darn things last and last, and last. No profit there. Today Gillette, et al, will , in certain instances GIVE you a handle just to get you buy their expensive blades($16.00 a shot) as opposed to a de blade for 10 cents.... Do the math.

But then that's jus my take on it, billdog2
With best wishes to all, God Bless

You make sure the package is sealed, especially with older carbon blades, give them a pre shave stropping and you, more often than not, are good to go. I almost never have a problem with vintage stainless even if the cellophane is broken and almost never have a problem with vintage carbons if it's completely sealed. I managed to pick up close to a hundred Personna 74s before the price spiked. For the most part vintage stainless are worth more to me simply because they shave better and last longer. Carbons shave as well or better as most modern but don't last as long so my preference for them is a nostalgia thing.

I have some vintage blades I rescued from a vintage fair a few weeks ago in case anyone on the forums collected them etc.

If anyone is interested please give me a shout and hopefully we can work something out.

I bought vintage Sputnik and swedish Matadors on eBay and etsy. Neither performed well in the muhle r41 lots of tugging but they worked fine in ikon safety bar. Has anyone had experience with these blades in other razors?

Hey, Scowley what kind are they, de, injector or what? I am surely interested if they are injectors. Otherwise I use Personna reds.

    billdog2, thanks

They are mostly DE with a handful of SE.

I don`t understand, I thought tungsten doesn`t bend. All my de blades bend (if only a little). Please, somebody fill me in, if they bend, then I might be
interested, depending a lot on the price, right now, with all the investigating I`ve been doing, I have razor blades coming out you know where. Been trying to deal with "essential tremors". I finely got a bbs, this morning, but I had to work really hard at it (just a few small weepers). It is 5:46 here and I can`t feel a whisker anywhere, no 5 o`clock shadow. I used a tungsten injector for most of the job and a new de (weepers).
I don`t know the procedure to buy or sell, I imagine one would have to go through proper channels with The Shave Den.

    Thanks, billdog2
