I had the same immediate reaction. But then, we do have the Central West End here in St. Louis. That is a nice looking razor though.
Ok! Also looking at this one. It looks like it has been repined to me, but am asking for your opinion. The scales look like the have a ding just below the pivot pin like it was hit placing the pin. Seller is not a razor person, sells everything but, so no good info from him. Thanks again for all of your support.
I suspect a pin replacement or someone in trying to tighten the pivot point went wild with an oversized hammer and whomped it pretty good. You don't see many DDs with the gold still intact on the tang.
I'm tempted on this one. There are a couple more. I'll see how it goes. There are always more coming down the river. Half the fun is the fishing. Thanks for your imput.
@gsixgun I found another one that has a great looking blade but the scales are warped. Can this be saved?
My goldedge had a similar warpage to the scales so I venture to say Glen will say 'yes' to your query as he was one who fixed mine.
I sent Glen a PM asking him as well. Thanks! Keeping my fingers crossed. I hope Glen has room for a new customer.
Most likely Yes Cracked Ice DD scales the Love / Hate relationship of the SR world hehehe They are so Pretty but dang they are Fragile, Finicky, Warp Prone, Rot Prone, BEAUTIFUL things
The first one got away. A couple of newbe bidders got into a war and the price went crazy. It's funny, I want to jump into straight razor shaving, and end up falling for a very popular line of razors. The hunt will continue. Thanks again for y'all's support. Stay tuned.....
While looking around for more information on straights I ended up on the Straight Razor Place site. Shhh! Anyway I was looking at DD razors there and signed up so I could view pictures. I posted in the newbe thread about what I was looking for and a member, Cudarunner, had a number of razors that he had from an anonymous person, and offered me one. I'm blown away. It arrived today, a rescaled DD, shave ready! I will be posting it in the SOTD tomorrow.
Go you! The Straight Razor Place does seem to be a great bunch of people, I've made one post there and got some great replies.
Glen, Yes, he has been great. He has good things to say about you as well, after I told him I ordered a strop from you, and getting your good advice. My RAD is now somewhat in check thanks to him, as I get used to using this Duck. Looking forward to using the strop, and have been watching your videos. Thanks again!
5? I'm just starting as well. Still I've seen even weekly sets in nice box - different razor for each day?
Im certainly not an example of one who says, 'Be practical...one straight razor is all your really will ever need!'—although there is truth in that statement. As in all other areas of wet-shaving, collecting a variety of fill -in-the-blank (razors...or soaps, or blades, or brushes...etc) simply enriches the experience (while simultaneously diminishing the bank account) and makes wet-shaving all the more rewarding and enjoyable. The boxed sets (7) were created with the concept of a different blade to be used every day of the week.
