16apr15 Excellent two pass shave with no nicks or irritation! VDH deluxe soap TGN Boar in ER 250D lucite EJ DE89 Kelvin Personna platinum (2) C&E Indian sandalwood post balm My second shave with the EJ. I believe this will be a good razor for everyday shaves. If there is more than a days growth, I'll need to use my 34c or a SS. But over all impressed for my second use of the DE89.
Thor's Day: Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Invigorating Face Wash, TSD Jasmine Sambac preshave balm Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger Soap: Stirling Bay Rum Razor: RazoRock Bamboozled RAKE OC Blade: Bolzano (2) Passes: WTG, XTG, ATG (4, 5, 6) Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma alum, Dickinson's WH, Captain's Choice Cat o' Nine Tails AS splash Cologne: Gigember Estragone by Dr. Vranjes I skipped Tuesday's shave to let my face recover from Monday's weepers, then was sick Wednesday and didn't feel up to shaving. That gave me more than enough stubble to tackle today. This was the third consecutive time getting good lather from a Stirling soap, so I may finally have figured it out; a combination of extra time on the puck and bowl-lathering seems to do the trick. Unfortunately, that means I'm unlikely to buy more, since face-lathering is one of my favorite parts of the process. The Bolzano was much better-behaved today, feeling much smoother and only producing the tiniest hot-spot/weeper on my upper lip during the 3-pass, nearly BBS shave.

Razor: Gillette Slim (k3) 1965 (5) (3) (original case and Blade pack with instructions) Brush: Jerusalem Olive Wood/WD Silvertip 24/48 Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue Cream: TOBS Coconut Blade: Sputnik Pre shave: Tree Hut Shea body wash Mango Post shave: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera, Jack Black balm, TOBS Luxury AS Whipped up the TOB in a minute with Olive Wood Silvertip. Nice slick cushion and I really like the sent. I loaded a new Sputnik blade in the Slim set on 5. The Shea Mango for the pre-shave helped give me some extra slickness. First pass was a little rough, adjusted my angle but not any better on the second pass. I guess this blade is not for me. Called it quits, and the Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera felt good on my face and helped soothe the burn. After cleaning my razor and a little spray of isopropyl alcohol to help dry the innards, I smoothed on some Jack Black. And splash or two of TOBS. This Sputnik didn't make it to orbit.
filly dolomitti homemade boar This brush is what I call my #3 boar (experiment wise). It's been a long, long time coming but it's finally arrived (starting to break in nicely). Who knows, #3 could end up being #1. Anyway, very nice shave today. Have a good one.

Man, I'm really starting to dislike you ObiDon! I have been back to the Olive Wood group buy numerous times trying to figure out how I can get my hands on one ( I don't do PayPal ) and now you show it off in your post! Damn you! Now I'll have to track one down somewhere because it is beautiful! Also like your Slim! Looks pert near perfect! Picked one up in my massive weekend haul a week or so ago, an I1 1963. Cleaned up nicely and it is rapidly becoming my favorite. Nice to be able to crank it up if I have a couple days growth and it plows right thru it. Love your Old Spice stuff too. I've always had a passion for the Big Sailing Ships, they are so majestic. ( hey, I'm from the Midwest and we dont get to see things like that ) That's next on my agenda but man the mugs and old glass bottles are really hard to find! Just makes the hunt in the wild more exciting!
Shave of the day Pre- Hot shower, Bulldog Original face wash, sandalwood bar soap Soap/cream- Taconic bay rum shaving soap Brush- Number 6 turkish boar Razor- Merkur 37c Blade- Rapira super stainless Post- Cold water rinse, Aqua Velva ice blue and my own unscented aftershave lotion and Nivea sensitive aftershave balm (sample) I have had a little trouble lathering this soap. Today I tried my #6 boar, I did get a slight better lather than with my Semogue. The thing with this soap is that I dont get the same consistency in the lather as with my other soaps. That did not stop me from getting a nice shave though. This soap is pretty darn slick. And the scent is just amazing, I love it! The #6 is a little scritchy still, I’m gonna concentrate on breaking it in in the future. AV is an amazing finish to s shave. I put some of my own aftershave to prolong the menthol kick a little bit =) I had to flip the Rapira blade because it wasn’t shaving me… Whats up with these Russian blades? It was a much needed shave though, last shave was saturday. I have realized my facial hair grows pretty fast haha =P is this good or bad? I dont know. Both I guess haha
Strange, because I never bowl-lather any soap or cream. Rod says his soaps lather better from directly on the puck. YMMV, I guess!
I had the same thoughts about Stirling. I usually get a much better face lather than bowl lather. For whatever reason, the Stirling soaps have always been the easiest to get the lather they way I like it for me.
At first the Glacial soaps were a bit tough to get lathered because they're so heavily-mentholated, they need a lot longer to cure properly. Once you give them that time they lather beautifully.
