Lets cut to the chase on just reviewing the soap, If you cant find a scent you love then you are out of luck, no need to do 100 reviews for just a scent! I can not get over how much I love this soap, it is a Wet Shavers, Wet Dream! To later, all you have to do is a few swirls on the puck and put it on your face, some folks work hard to get it to be good but I find it to be a waste of time just put it on your face! Life last pretty good but It will dry out if you let is sit too long (like 5 min). Moisture, lube and protection is the best you are going to get out of a soap I gave them a 9. Scent is a no briner 10, pick a flavor Price, UNDER 10 BUCKS WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT!
Mama Bear Old Spice type shaving soap This Old Spice type soap rules! Sue whipped up a winner with this stuff. I find it to be even a lot better than the original Old Spice mug soap I used to shave with years ago. It has the exact same scent, but with much better lather, and real good skincare. Jeff
Hmm.. Couldnt find a higher grade than 10 on "Scent".. LOL This is one of the absolute best shaving soaps out there, its easy lathering great moisurizing and protective.. And above all is the SCENT!! Im almost willing to bet that you cannot find nicer smelling soaps anywhere! Just pick a scent, theyre all Exellent!!!
I only have one, but I will most definitely be buying more after I work through some of the other things in my collection. MB is the most lubricating soap I've used. It's almost like cheating! It generates great lather, smells great (I've got hydrogen), and the lather lasts forever. Great stuff!
Mamma's scents KILL anything on the market. Love the stuff, love the woman. She can NOT be beaten on scent by anything on the market. If you don't like it you haven't tried it.
Currently have 5 of the Mama Bear's soaps, and you are right: best thing on the market, super easy to lather, slick, cushiony, a tad quick drying, but I have an A/C blowing directly on my right side during my shave so YMMV. There is NO way to rank Sue's soaps, they are ALL great. Rosemary Mint: WOW! :happy108 This stuff feels great, smells FANTASTIC, and cools like Proraso wishes it could! Lavender: What a wonderful smelling and soothing soap/scent! Lime EO: You could just open the jar and sniff all day Bergamot EO: DITTO (In fact, I do!) Aged Spice: Makes you want to whistle "THE" jingle as you shave, throw a sea bag over your shoulder and board the ship! I melt mine and pour them into shave sticks, as I am working out of a shaving kit every day. Rub the stick on your face then hit it with the brush. Makes so much lather, you wish your skin was able to withstand 6 passes!
There are better soaps I started out using Mama Bear Soaps like many other newbie wet shavers and quickly collected a whole bunch of them. They were cheap and the different scents were very agreeable except for one or two exceptions. Mama Bear Soaps are a typical melt and pour glycerin based shave soap with added EO and FO fragrances. YMMV and all that. As time has passed, I have move away from Mama Bear Soaps for a number of reasons. Mostly, because I have found much better soaps out there performance wise. The Shave Den's own line of soaps as an example or The Gentlemen's Quarter and QED are others. I haven't totally abandoned them because there are several soaps that I still like and if performance needs boosting, I can always add a little Kiss My Face Unscented Shave Cream to them. The cushion and glide are just average. The quality control has been a little spotty at times. Overall, I would say that you might want to try something else first and just get one or two to try that has a scent that you think will blow you away. Also, these soaps are a mainstay of shaver superlather combinations. Are they bad soaps? No, but like I said, in my opinion, there are many more soaps out there made just like them that perform better.
This is great stuff, the only glycerine type shaving soap I keep coming back to time after time. That's not to say the others aren't good, just that I like this one so much. MB shaving soap sets the standard for me on on moisturizing and skin conditioning. The lather might seem a little thin by comparison if I've been using Tabac for awhile previously, but it shaves wonderfully even when I'm adjusting my lathering technique from a triple milled soap back to a cold pour. The scents are just fantastic and it's a sure bet that Sue has at least one for everybody. Now that I think about this it's almost time to reorder some of my favorites - Sandalwood Vanilla, Masculine Musk, Marauder Citrus, and maybe try a couple new ones.
Unless you know something I don't, Sue's soaps are not cold process, she uses melt n pour glycerin soaps.
What can I say, i have drawers and drawers full of her soaps... She makes over 100 of the best soaps out there
Sue does make excellent soaps, there's no doubt about it. Yes, I'd say that the TSD soaps are equally as good, perhaps even a level better.
i got my 1st mama bears soaps 2 days ago 2 lime scents and fresh cut grass i have to say it is like cheating when shaving with my feather dx ill be doing a lot of business with her
Rosemary Mint - heaven! I'm not usually into mint soaps, but I read a lot of good things about this one, so I gave it a shot. First off, I gave it a 9 instead of a 10 for scent only because I don't detect rosemary - only mint. This stuff makes one incredible lather. The shave was so smooth and so slick, I even did a 4th against-the-grain pass (which I never do) and had zero irritation (which never happens when I shave against the grain). The razor glided over my face - in fact, during the second pass, I questioned whether the blade was even touching my face, but when I rinsed after the pass, the smoothness told me it had! Best shave I have had in quite some time. The mint is wonderful, and gives me that wonderful cooling sensation that I enjoyed in Proraso but without the horrible smell that I came to hate in Proraso. Bottom line - you want a great, strong-smelling mint shave soap that will give you an excellent shave at a rock-bottom price, buy Mama Bear Rosemary Mint!
Fantastic Soap Mama Bear makes great soaps. I love the Lemongrass Ice in the summer months! I have tried a number of other brands of soaps. Thus far they have all fallen short of the bar set by Mama Bear. Easy to lather, smell great and verrrry slick. With over 100 different scents to choose from, your trouble will be narrowing your choices down instead of finding something you'd like.
Love Mama Bear's offerings! I've got 8 of her soaps now and find them to be some of the best around. Rosemary Mint & Spicey Lime top the list with Tuscan Memories, Eucalyptus, Marauders Citrus, Awakenings, Diogenes Club, Dominican Bay & Tangerine not far behind. I know that I'll be adding more to this group down the road. Highly recommended!
I like the almond soap from Mama Bear a lot. It has a great cherry/nutty scent, as well as the characteristic good, thick lather.
I bought the following in order of my preference Sandalwood / Vanilla - love the scent Indian Tobacco - Wow, this one suprised me. This is a very floral top note scent (I mean very) with the tobacco being a bottom note that comes through as you shave. Very nice Rosemary / Mint - I got this in stick format. I had high expectations with everyone's comments. It is very nice, but I like the other 2 more. Iced Lime - This one disappointed me. I really like the menthol kick (much more than Proraso cream), but I barely smelled the lime. I want my iced lime to smell more like lime than menthol. Next time I will probably by the iced mandarin. It is a FO, which may be stronger.
MB Lime Soap I have a puck of Mama bear's Lime Oil Soap that smells absolutely phenomenal. Shaving with it can be tough (I still haven't mastered lathering glycerin soaps), although I've gotten a lot better at it. One trick I like is to use a completely dry brush and using it on a slightly wet puck....works for me.
I got 8 Mama Bears soaps and a bunch of other soaps to compare them too, if you have never lathered glycerin soaps it can be a tad different but do it once and your set very easy and consistent from tub to tub, the scents are amazing and the iced menthol brands work as they should. For the price you can't go wrong.
