there used to be a shop in NY city that used a swastika as its copy logo. It operated thru the 20's and early 30's. I have seen a few shaving sets with brush mirror and case on ebay and one locally at an antique store. He thought it was a Nazi product till I pulled up a web page showing the same set online with a company history. here is one link to items that had the swastika on them. One appears to be the same type brush you saw. http://www.mallstuffs.com/Blogs/Blo...consumer products and pharmaceutical industry
I venture this was made in the early 20th century, and NOT the 19th century as stated above. Pre-Nazi era; no reference to Nazism. As other have stated, the gammadion cross has different meaning and implies something entirely different ('luck') than the use by the Nazi party (which has the icon rotated 45° versus how it it shown on the brush). In today's society, since the image has taken on notoriety, there is rekindled interest in what it represents. This brush, however, predates the era from which this notoriety came.
The Swastika is not Hindu. It is Proto-Indo-Eropean. The Nazis simply took it over and perverted it. http://norse-mythology.org/symbols/swastika-ancient-origins-modern-misuse/
Well it sold for $27 bucks. Heres hoping that it went to a true collector and not someone who is going to glorify the evil that it turned into, 45 degrees angled or not.
