The $16 dirty Leresche I bought some time ago finally appeared in the mailbox today. There was never any photo of the top cap in the ad so I was rather pleased to find out that it was in great, great condition: The $16 pricetag is however explained when you take a closer look at the handle: It's hard to tell how much is pure dirt and how much might be plate loss/unremovable. I'm going to give it a good soak and scrub tomorrow to see if there is anything under that... The seller, for some reason, also added a tiny travel razor in the package. Not sure why but it's kinda neat - by far the smallest razor I own. It will however most likely go into the 'box of undesirables'.
Thanks Darkbulb and Mark! The Yoresh bowl is a little larger and shallower than my current Captain's Choice bowl. The sides are not as vertical either. These features keep the brush from clanking on the sides of the bowl and allow for better lather production. While I've enjoyed the CC bowl, I think that the Yoresh bowl is a superior design. If the handle was just a bit wider (to allow it to be used as a brush rest) it would be perfect, IMHO
leave it to you to get an extra travel razor thrown in. I will send you the nake of my sellers and see if you can convince them to send one to me.
Hopefully it's only dirt on the handle =) Who knows, maybe that travel razor will become the best razor you own haha
How much did it cost? And could you take a picture of it with a brush in it? It's easier to get an idea of the dimensions
I received it as a gift, but here's a link to the bowl on the potter's Etsy store where you can find color and pricing information: https://www.etsy.com/listing/168338...llery&ga_search_query=yoresh&ref=sr_gallery_7 You can see pictures with a brush in my last few SOTD posts. The razor in the bowl is a Weber with bulldog handle. I think you just picked one up, so this should provide you with a good reference point.
I also found this in yesterday's road trip. Before pic. (I'll post the cleanup pic later.) The razor seems to be in very good condition, and the clamshell case is also intact. I'm assuming for now that "Ever Sharp" actually means Schick, and I'm also assuming that this razor will accept standard Schick injector blades. I'm not sure of the vintage. I'll try to do some research today to see if I can get an idea of when it was manufactured.
Very nice! Looks pretty clean already.. Its my understanding that ever sharp bought Schick in 1946. http://www.safetyrazors.net/schick/schicktech.htm
This razor-lot arrived over the weekend. I paid 70-something dollars for it and I am kind of questioning if I overpaid as it wasn't quite the Aristo I had hoped it would be (I'm thinking it's a #66?). - Wilkinson Sword Empire E7 in ratty box but with instructions and razor seems to be in ok shape - Autostrop Valet VC3, ok shape - Wardonia 'New Edge', good shape with original blade holders - Bluebeard razor blade stropper, good shape and works well, - Rolls Razor blade case, - Gillette Aristocrat (#66?), decent shape, will see how it cleans up, - Ever Ready 1912 w/ Bathroom Set handle, good shape, - Two straights with some rust - one of them a Mappin & Webb Royal - that I believe was a high-end chain of stores in the UK, - Generic rather terrible brush and some old blades. Looks like I gots some cleaning to do....
Cool scuttle I found at a garage sale. James Kent Old Foley! Was looking for something turn of the century when wet shaving was the norm.
Nope. I have watched a couple on the bay so I knew a "decent price". I got this at a local antique store for $15.
I picked up some mugs and brushes this weekend as well but nothing I found is worth the time to photograph. the will be my oops brushes as I learn restoration technique.
But in case anyone is wondering who it was, I am the one who bought the seashell scuttle on eBay. Just waiting for it to arrive. Hey @Darkbulb can you email the guy and see if he has any spare travel razors to include?
It's yours. On a side note, a Vulfix brush display that I was watching sold for 26 bucks on eBay earlier. The buyer recently resisted it for 100 bucks BIN using the original sellers pictures. I hope it breaks in shipping....
