    Hello all,

    I need your help.

I do not know which one to choose:

    Suehiro Gokumyo 10k
    Chosera 10k
    Yaginoshima Asagi

    Please advise.

    Thank you

Ok I just found your answer over at SRP

You are looking to Bridge the 8k to Finisher gap is what I see

Either of the 10k will do that the Chosera is exactly what I use nearly everyday as a Pre-Finisher

    BUT

You should not need it, your 8k should be that "Bridge" I used a 1-4-8 Norton and a 1-3-8 Henckel set for thousands of razors followed by a finisher of my choosing..

That being said there is some good evidence that smaller steps make for good edges I am a firm believer in using the Full Shapton GS system 1-2-4-6-8-16-30 and the full Naniwa SS system 1-3-5-8-10-12

But those are matched systems and they fit together very well matching Feel, Grit, and Binder

Honing has a ton of variable to sort through and much like other things in this hobby you have to go with what works best for your style

I can tell you that my goto setup now is a Chosera 1-5-10 then into my finisher of choice after that ...

I may go for the 5 & 10k from the Chosera line once my Norton 4/8k is done. I love the Chosera 1k.

I am a complete novice to honing compared to some of the experienced gents on this forum, however my setup is Chosera 1k , Norton 4/8 combo, Naniwa 12k for finishing!!

Glen came through again with some great advice. Currently I'm using a naniwa 1k- Norton 4-8k and I usually finish up on a Coti w/slurry then water.
Just want to add how important the 1 k stone is during the honing process. Get a full sized stone to ensure perfect bevel setting. Remember you'll spend the majority of your time with this stone.

If I'm looking to invest in stones, best to invest in the early stages (the bevel setting) than dump a load of dough on the polishing end. No fancy finisher is going fix an inadequate bevel set.

Well said. Couldn't agree more. Most of the mistakes are made in the early stages of honing.
