4/29/2015 Prep: Hot shower with Nivea Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO Razor: Gillette Fat Boy (3), "The Hornet" straight razor Blade: Astra SP (6) Brush: Turkish #6 Soap: L'Occitane - Cade After: Home made ASB, Nivea after shave balm Cologne: Gravity It was a comfortable Darn Fine Shave + this morning. The Cade was whipped up nicely by the #6 brush. There was enough thick lather to do at least 6 passes. The Fat Boy and "The Hornet" did their jobs with ease. The Nivea ASB brought the needed moisturizing and the Gravity will keep me smelling good all day. Have a blessed day!
WEDNESDAY This morning, I used for the first time two products I had recently received from TSD members: A puck of Catie's Bubbles soap and a tube of Raymond Waites aftershave balm. The Caties' Bubbles (thanks, Lou!) yielded some slick, easy-to-create lather that provided both good glide and lasting protection throughout each pass. It is a quality product that feels quite slick on the fingers and does not dry out the face the way some soaps are prone to do. The only real knock on this fine soap is this particular scent—'Glacé Herbe' ('Glossy Grass')—which, according to my nose and those lucky few within polling-disance, has the unfortunate scent distinctly reminiscent of 'Ant Spray.' To mask the lingering Raid-like aroma, I applied a sizable blob of Raymond Waites 'Citrus Basil' balm. The balm is fairly thick and goopy, and leaves an initial film that requires diligent rubbing in for the balm to be absorbed properly. The scent is distinctly citrus and barely herbaceous. The balm did do a decent job of masking the underling soap scent. Overall, a very decent shave! Caties' Bubbles is a very good soap—but I cannot recommend this particular flavor. Have a happy humpday, all!
Today's shave: hot shower Pre-shave-virgin coconut oil soap-Razorock P-160 razor-Edwin Jagger DE8911 Blade-Wilkinson sword saloon pack from India (8th shave BTW) After-Witch Hazel w/added menthol crystals Clubman Lime Sec w/added menthol crystals 2 pass BBS shave! I gotta say that was the first time i used coconut oil as a preshave and i am completely satisfied with the results. No irritations, bumps, cuts, nicks , or anything. If anyone is interested in trying the coconut oil, I highly recommend it.
@Sara-s has an excellent preshave oil recipe in the tutorial thread! Been using it a couple of weeks now and my shaves have never been as pleasant and my skin is amazing. Read thru some of it, there are a LOT of ideas and additions but the basic recipe ROCKS! And it sounds like you and @crackstar could be real good buddies with your menthol addiction!
No pre-shave prep Soap: Glacial Wintergreen with 4 generous M-Bomb drops Razor: R-89 with Super Iridium blade (4th shave on blade) Post shave: Thayers Lemon Witchazel, Osage Rub, and Pinaud Clubman Musk Cologne: a couple squirts too much of Aqua Di Gio Face = BBS. I had a great shave this morning with only 2 very minor weepers - one beside the chin and one underneath the chin. They both stopped weeping by the time I made my next pass. Even my neck is much smoother with way less irritation/burn on my neck. In fact, I only have a little bit of razor burn on the left side of my neck and none on my right side. My neck is way smoother than it normally is. This is a huge improvement! I was surprised (and pleased) with how smooth my shave was this morning. When I used the Osage Rub, instead of intense stinging and intense burning, it was only a brief mild burn followed by rush of cooling goodness.
