  4. So today I had my 3rd ever, self induced, straight razor shave. I have 4 different razors, each with it's own personality. For my "learning curve" I suppose I should pick just one and stick with it until I have mastered, or at least bettered, my skills.
Today was a Dubl Duck Goldedge, 2 days ago a Wade and Butcher Medium size half hollow, and two days before that a Filarmonica 14. The frustrating part is the razors don't feel all that sharp, however, I did attend a honing "get together" hosted by members from another forum, so I KNOW these are shave ready. I guess it's just learning the feel. I won't give up easily

  17. First shave with this newly restored W&B…a big-blade of Sheffield steel. Three passes + some touch-up. Speaking of touch-up, I may take this back to the hones and work on the nose a bit more. It lags (tugs) behind the rest of the blade a bit in overall keenness.

Now that you have been shaving with a straight for a while how do you like the shaves?
    oscar11 likes this.
  19. I do. I find that the shave is better when time is not an issue.
the concentration of the task at hand has a relaxing element to it. I also really enjoy the feedback of the blade. the hollow ground ones really sing.
I have noticed that the areas of difficulty with the de are not the same areas with the straight.
the times that I have gotten it right, I've had very close shaves.
