Reminds me of watching my dad shave on Saturday mornings. Great memories! I think of him now every time I shave. Thanks for sharing yours.
MAYhem & Mercy May 6, 2015 Prep - Hot shower and towel Brush - Tweezerman Badger Soap - Williams (Finally.....something that lasted a bit)Mug Shaving Soap Razor - Rapira Blade - Post - Alum, Nivea Replenishing Post Shave Balm Day two on the 7 a.m. and it was in the Rapira after yesterday's disaster with the Soyuz 1...although that is why I named it that....disaster. Better shave in the Rapira though far from great, at least during the process. One side of the blade is definitely sharper than the other. Only one minor nick with the duller side. The drag was still evident but better than yesterday, but I think the aggressiveness of the razor was overcompensating for the dullness and unevenness. Finished the shave with, surprisingly, a DFS though barely. The Williams problem.....I let the puck soak a couple of minutes with hot water on it, shook the brush out to damp and went after it. Got a mountain of soap bubbles out of the Old Spice mug. If it had been dense it would have looked like foam from a can. Alas, no density. However, when I face lathered I got a thin lather that actually covered my face and lasted through each pass. It was slick enough to count as lather as well. I'll stay with that formula a few more days.....super wet puck, damp brush....and confirm the results. Then try to tweak it to a bit thicker lather. Maybe there is hope! For tomorrow's final day on the 7 a.m. I'm going back to the Soyuz 1. I want to try and center the blade better. I think it's getting angled in the head due to the tightening process and it drags on the threads...if that makes sense. If I can get it loaded with an even gap, or as even as the Soyuz gets, I'm thinking I can improve the result. If it works with the Rapira it should, at least in theory, work in the Soyuz. We shall see.

The photo was better than the shave I decided to pair Diamond with Fougère tonique. I thought the grassy aftershave would compliment the soap, but it's not my favorite pairing. It's not bad either. The shave was adequate, but I did get some weepers on my neck. This was the first time with Personna lab blue in a long time, they seem to be less smooth than voskhod or Astra SP in Der vorschlaghammer. I used some Shea Moisture balm to help my neck feel better, and I may add some menthol splash before I leave for work. Prep: Mickey Lee preshave butter Soap: B&M Diamond Brush: HIS Razor: Der vorschlaghammer Blade: Personna Lab Blue (1) AS: B&M Fougère Tonique; Shea Moisture balm

So, I went with the slightly more aggressive RazoRock and a fresh Bic. The lather was really good this morning, probably my best with the Stirling ever. The razor/blade combo felt considerably smoother than yesterday, though I admit I hedged my bets around the goatee area and opted for an opposite-direction XTG pass rather than a true ATG pass there, as that's where most of my bloodshed tends to crop up. Finished with the Aveeno (which, naturally, didn't absorb well) and the Dr. Vranjes and I feel like I might just be ready for this afternoon's presentation.
There's a reason why I love the Stirling soaps so much - it's because they're magnificent. The Frozen Tundra smells so beautiful, lathers so richly, and gives perfect blade glide. It's also a very strongly-mentholated soap with absolutely terrific skincare. What a great shave I had this morning from it. My SuperMax Blue blade is still performing like a champ for me.
Schick 500/J4 razor Personna blade Lord SC FS Silver Tip brush Osage Rub/Witch Hazel/Sage mix Barbasol Brisk A/S The J4 is a lovely razor but a bit mild for me. Got nice shave but really had to work for it. Love the Lord SC!
