SOTD 5-11-15 Razor: ATT H1 plate with Bamboo handle Blade: Personna Red Platinum Chrome (2) Soap: B&M Latha Bowl: VDH Brush: VDH Boar Post: Gentleman Jon Alum block Preshave was just face wash with warm water and post shave was rinse with warm water then some cold water splashes and pat dry, then apply the alum block Razor: I used the H1 again and really liking it! It is some what aggressive but also smooth and easy enough to use! Blade: Second time using this blade and I have to say it didn't feel as good as yesterday. If felt duller and a bit rougher! Soap: This is the first time using this soap and it seems like a very good soap. It lathers easily and I think it provided me with a great slick protective lather throughout the shave and the post feel is also very good! Comments: Shave was very good and very close, I get a DFS each time with the H1. For some reason my blade being only a second day try didnt seem to live up to the hype I gave it yesterday! It felt kinda dull already and some tugging which from that gave me a couple of nicks and some irritation. I flipped the blade over but didn't change it cause I wanted to see if it was just me or my lack of technique but it wasn't! Well okay, maybe some but not all! LOL Lets just say I got a good shave but not a great one! Please feel free to leave comments on any items used as I enjoy reading them to see what others say about the gear I am using/trying out! Of course, YMMV! Thx.
Brush Focus: Day 11 Brush: Frank Shave Brush Beechwood Best Badger,22/55 Gillette Super Speed, A3 Flare Tip (1955) Gillette Platinum Blade (1) Bowl: KO Shave Soap: Jack's Soap AS: Lucky Tiger Old Spice Coffee Mug. Although this brush is supposed to be the same as yesterday's Frank Shave Brush it is totally different. Once again I had to sand it down and apply two coats of polyurethane. This brush has lost hair since day one. It was no better today, still loosing hair. Scritch a little bit, but not bad. The brush has to be continually loaded during the shaving process, plus water add also. If it wasn't for a good razor and blade this shave would have been a disaster. Amazing how two brushes that are supposed to be the same can be so different. This brush goes to the back of the bus and won't get used again. Life is just to short.

Tuesday's Dove Men Face Wash Col. Conk Lime Shave Soap Jayaruh #8 Dad's Schick E3 Personna Stainless CWR, Asma Alum Block Thayers Rose Petal WH Barbasol Brisk The Col. Conk Lime Shave Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh Jayaruh #8 badger brush. Two passes with my Dad's Schick E3 razor and a Personna Stainless blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Rose Petal WH and then Barbasol Brisk after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Tuesday morning's planned action: Neutrogena Men Facial Wash Large Horsehair Barbershop Super Speed/Dorco day 2 Italian Palmolive Menthol SC Gold Bond Moisturizer Proraso Green AS Aramis EdT OK, not nearly as frigid a set-up as for a Menthol Monday Shave but still pretty damned cold even if I say so myself. The main thing is that for the first time I won't be using any Stirling stuff since at least two weeks. In fact my shaves have been nothing but soap, so it's time for me to indulge in a nice cream. The Palmolive Menthol smells terrific, lathers so richly with no real efforts and gives such great cooling with plenty of skincare. The Gold Bond/Proraso Green duo will keep the chill going. That Dorco better not act like a dork, because I'll scrap it at the first sign of trouble!

MAYhem & Mercy May 11, 2015 Prep - Hot shower and towel Brush - Tweezerman Badger Soap - Williams (I am really tired of this) Mug Shave Soap Razor - Soyuz 1 Blade - (1) Post - Alum, Nivea Replenishing Post Shave Balm Onward and forward with MAYhem. After yesterday's return to sanity it was tough to load up the Soyuz 1 today. What was tougher was getting the Williams back in action. The thin lather and the smell just didn't get me off to a good start this morning. Not that it was any worse than normal, nor even really bad since it lasted through each pass, just not the kind of lather I enjoy at ALL. (Sigh) Oh well, suck it up, put on your big boy panties and let's shave. The Sharp blade, another entry from Samah Razor Products in Bangladesh, has sometimes been referred to as the worst blade available. It does have new packaging...I'll get a pic of that for tomorrow....but same blade as before. Now, in fairness, my BBS from late yesterday morning set the stage for success for almost any blade and razor. It's hard not to get a solid DFS when you start at a near CCS. Alas, the Sharp only got me to a near, well maybe just barely there DFS. I suspect tomorrow's shave will reveal an incredibly dull and rough blade but I'll withhold judgement until then. I could be I was just miffed over the Williams on my face today. On one interesting note that looks forward to next week I soaked and rinsed the Bigelow out of my Vie LOng 12705. The tips now have a nice menthol scent, the rest of the brush will still gag a maggot. So it's an Arko lather and soak overnight tonight to try and drive out some more of the fun. The bristles are great though. Lots of backbone and yet soft. Looking forward to getting it ready to go! Hope you all had a great, and Williams free, Monday!
