I picked this up at the store yesterday and thought it might be a good cream to try out. The next morning I put a good quarter size amount in my bowl, pulled out my trusty Escali badger brush and went to town... Or so I thought. As I was whipping like I would say, C.O. Bigelow for instance, the cream just spread around my bowl and stuck to my brush. There wasn't an ounce of lather or suds or bubbles or anything. Add water, nothing. More cream, nothing. Endless, fruitless cycle. Is this not a cream like I am used to, or is there some secret procedure to this cream?
It's intended to be a "brushless" cream. According to Burt's Bees instructions: Wet skin; apply cream to area to be shaved. Rinse. Follow with Burt's Bees Aftershave. Read more at http://www.burtsbees.com/Natural-Sk...e/569-999,default,pd.html#pcsiq6UPhTcuO1Iz.99
I went to a local Henry's Market Place aka Sprout's Farmers Market. They have all kinds of Organic and other items. In their Vitamins and specialty Soap and othe body and skin care department. They still carry Burt's Bee Products. I asked the clerk if they had the Burt's Bee Shave soap or Shave Cream. The manager of that department said that they quit carrying the Shave cream and Shaving Soap because they had too many complaints so they quit carrying it.. So I guess the buying public spoke.
Go to Burt's Bees web page and look at his picture. Burt doesn't shave. http://www.burtsbees.com/Our-History/story-history,default,pg.html
Brushless shaving creams are even worse than the canned stuff. With the latter you get a lather at least. But a brushless is pointless. And one has to wonder how on earth the company could have ever put out such a worthless brushless cream. Did they not test it beforehand? Some brushless creams do work though they are boring as Tuesday.
VDH luxury if you get a urge to buy a soap at a store, the stuff is great and i know a lot LOVE it and say wonderful things about it (myself included), and i would still say it is a very UNDERRATED soap. all things considered there is no soap/cream (that i have found) that i can go to a store and buy that is cheap, lathers well, is good during and after the shave, and smells great....granted i cant go to the store and buy many quality soaps/creams
Why is brushless pointless? Insisting on using a brush - or anything else - to get a good shave is trying to fit the solution to the problem. It is the shave quality - the bottom line - that counts. Burt's Bees shaving cream worked really well for me. It needed to be applied by hand rather than by brush, but that's OK. It is a task easily mastered. The only way in which I would fault the product is that it does not state it is brushless only on the tube. Because it works well, and therefore sells well and is profitable? Given that it is effective, it was very likely tested prior to release. Whether or not Tuesday or shaving cream is boring depends largely on one's approach and attitude.
It's pointless because it's boring. It's no different from applying shaving gel to your face with your bare hands. It's pointless because a thick and rich lather applied with a first-rate badger brush is part of the shaving experience.
