Can I apply some toner and then moisturizer instead of the alum and aftershave? On paulaschoice.com customer service and even some folks on SkincareAddiction(on www.reddit.com) recommend this.
I think he's more asking whether it's doable, not so much if it's frowned upon. I can't directly answer the question, because I don't know what a toner is. But I often apply moisturizer alone, nothing else. Works wonderfully.
yes. the toner would act as an alum block or an aftershave. I have heard of people doing this along with witch hazel
What I meant was if a toner and then a moisturizer won't basically be the same as an alum, and then an aftershave balm. These are the type of toners that i was referring to http://www.paulaschoice.com/shop/skin-care-categories/toners/.
Witch Hazel is a traditional toner for after shaving. Alum is really an astringent/antibacterial. But yeah man, do whatever your face likes!
I never use alum, but I always use witch hazel, followed by balm, or aftershave. Lately I've been on a balm kick, because of the moisturizing effect.
I'm asking the question because I use aftershave balm(Proraso White and Proraso Blue). So applying the aftershave balm and then a moisturizer would seem like applying the same type of product. Maybe I can apply alum after the shave, rinse it off, then toner and finally moisturizer.
Yes, no need to apply moisturiser after the balm. Or the other way around. Also no need to apply a balm after an after shave splash. They should do the same, in different "packaging". If the splash does not provide the protection and you feel you need a balm, then it's an inferoir splash that IMHO needs to be binned. YMMV.
After my shave I apply a hot facecloth, then I apply witch hazel (toner) and put away my gear...then I apply Shea butter (my new found treasure) or coconut oil, or olive oil or Eucerin cream as a moisturizer/balm.
