Received this today from Chris at www.razorplate.com How do you tell the difference between a 1948,49, and a 1947 Super Speed. By the "blade notches" at the ends of the T-bar. They showed up in 1948 and onward. 1947 had "wings" instead of notches. Since NDC (no date code) ended in 1949 and date codes began in 1950........that narrows yours down to a 1948 or 1949 model. There is no way to discern whether it is a 1948 or 1949, however. Here is a photo that I took with my i Phone. It's not a great photo, but if you zoom-in, you can see the difference. These are a couple of 40's Super Speeds that are in my shop at the moment. Although it is missing its end caps, the one on the left is a 1948-1949. The one on the right is a 1947. Notice the notches on the 1948-1949 and the wings on the 1947.
Not to be overly technical but the notch actually appeared sometime after July 1947, so a notched "could be" a '47. However they were not really sold in great numbers until '48. Ok, back to the discussion....OCD for meaningless details satisfied for the moment.
Very pretty! Just found a '47 myself (no notches) last week. Cleaned it up and shaved with it the next day. It was....
