Day One of Seven Days using this large Friodur...one of the BEST shaves I've ever had this morning. I'm so looking forward to this week's shaves!
I have found razors that will shave as close but none that are that silky smooth & they hone up so easily
…and you lived to tell the tale! so many shavers are hesitant to take the SR plunge out of concern for bodily injury, but with a bit of practice, this fear diminishes greatly.
500th shave today I know it sounds crazy but I do keep track. I have an excel database that I use to record my shaves. I keep track of the razor used, the soap or crème or ubelather, the quality of the lather and also the blade. I rate the lather, the blade and the final result on a scale of 1 -10. It seems redundant at times but sometimes I go back and study what worked and it really puts different baldes, soaps and the honing process in perspective ( stropping also) I track it all!! Since today was a 500th milestone ( 400+ without a DE) I picked my favorite razor and soap etc RAZOR - Erusta Made with Bohler Stahl steel - I think it is 13/16. Got it from Jamie Mahoney and believe me is sharp and shaves like none other. He did an outstanding job restoring and honing this beauty SOAP - Jamies favorite soap is Caties La Terre Verte. I like it also so I used it today in his honor AS toner - Caties La Terre verte I am a Sandalwood kind of guy today. The shave was as good as they get for me.
Congratulations Lou quite a milestone 500 straight razor shaves, I now look forward to seeing your 5000th shave in a few years time I'm sure it will happen.
today I used(or half used) Henckels twin works #81 " the spotted emperor" it's a 4/8 hollow ground with a rounded end. it got picky after two passes, I wanted to be smooth today. so I bailed and finished with yesterday's slim. I'm a bit disappointed in my lack of " sick to it ness", but I got a perfectly smooth shave. I'll do better next time.
6/8 Wacker Inox Cade homemade brush, box elder burl and an Ace finest I haven't used this brush enough to get the stink out of it, pretty nice knot though. Excellent leisurely Saturday morning shave. Have a good one.
