Planned shave for Thursday: Neutrogena Men Facial Wash Large Horsehair Barbershop Super Speed/Derby day 4 Stirling Frozen Tundra SS Gold Bond Moisturizer Alcolado Glacial Menthol Splash YSL Pour Homme EdT Not quite a SUPER-BRRRRRRRRRRR shave which a Glacial soap would give, but still very much a great BRRRRRRRR one. The Frozen Tundra is probably Rod's second coldest soap and it smells so nice, with plenty of rich, stable, slick lather and terrific blade glide as well as lots of skincare. I'm freaked out to this day with how good the Gold Bond lotion is at cooling and soothing my skin, and the Penguin freezes like crazy to really make me feel great. I love these Derby blades.
Kon Tiki is one that I have not tried. If memory serves me right I think she called it a smoky type sent but not a tobacco scent and though I like tobacco soaps such as Cavendish and Huntlee sweet tobacco is so so, I not really into smoke, dirt type scent scents. You will have to let me know what Kon Tiki is really like and I might just have interpreted what she describe as the scent.

Recovery and play with soap week! May 27, 2015 Prep - Hot shower and towel Brush - Omega Pro 48 Soap - Saint Charles Shave Sandalwood Razor - EJ DE89L Blade - (3) Post - Alum, Clubman Day three on the 7 o'clock blue and I've gotta say, if this blade was in production I would have ordered in bulk. Great performance by the blade. I'm moving on tomorrow but only because I want to test a blade before the 1st. Yes, I have a plan. As far as the rest of the shave I went to the St. Charles soap and it is still giving me some problems. I have found it much more difficult to lather than MWF and I'm thinking it's just a matter of finding the right soap/water ratio. I'm not sure the high loft Pro 48 is right for it either. Tomorrow I'm going to switch to the VDH Boar and see if I can have a bit better luck. If not then I'm really afraid I'll have to put St. Charles Shave in the second tier. I want very badly for it to perform. Locally made and I really would love to support them. But....it's all performance in the end. I did feel like today's shave was a bit less comfortable than the last two but I'm going to blame the three day old blade very slightly. I think, though, that the lather issue was the major issue. Great scent though. Another reason to keep at it for a bit.
SOTD 5-27-15 PRESHAVE: Face wash with soap and warm/hot water STRAIGHT: Gold Dollar stainless RAZOR: 1961 Super Speed Flair Tip (G2) BLADE: Gillette Silver Blue (3) SOAP: Arko stick BOWL: VDH BRUSH: VDH Boar POST: Rinse with warm/hot water to get soap off and then some cold water rinses/splashes and pat try. Comments: I was going to use the straight razor and at least do the cheeks and see how it goes and if all went well, maybe use it on some other areas but all it did was tug so I didnt get very far with it at all. It was suppose to be "shave ready" but couldn't be so I used the Gillette for the shave. The Gillette gave me a real good shave. I would call it CCS bordering on DFS but the razor just seems to mild for my liking. Soap was very good and never fails to create a great slick lather that provides me with excellent protection during each pass! Slight irritation and one small weeper! The Gillette Silver Blue blade felt good and sharp in this razor. It was good shave today. The only issues were the so called "shave ready" Gold Dollar and that the old Gillette is too mild for my liking! Please feel free to leave comments on any items us ed as I enjoy reading them to see what others say about the gear I am using/trying out! Of course, YMMV! Thx.
Nice shave. I enjoy reading your SOTD. The Gillette Superspeed is indeed a bit on the mild side. My '59 is still one of my favorite razors. I like to pull it out and use it when I'm in the mood for a nice lazy and comfy shave. I know it's mild so I just slow down and take my time to work the shave. I find pairing it with a sharper blade enhances its performance as well. The GSB isn't a bad choice but I would prefer a Kai, Voskhod or Sharp Star with it.
Thanks for the nice comments! I enjoy writing them in hopes that some will get something out of it, whether it is just a laugh or something useful like matching a blade with a razor, or using a soap with a razor or just my thoughts on either the razor or the soaps! I think I have a tuck of Kai's here somewhere but if not the GSB's, Platinum Lux's or Astra SP's are my only choices! Well, I think I have a 7 o'clock yellow here too!
Well they aren't everybody's favorite. LOL Just mine at the moment. I revisit blades from time to time to see if I get different results. Sometimes in different razors too to compare.
Interesting shave this morning. I suppose I didn't really need a shave but of course I did have one. I started using my MMOC with a GEM blade on its 8th shave. It wasn't bad - GEM blades don't get tuggy like DE blades when they run out of puff but their performance does fall off gradually. I like a smooth sharp blade so changed to my MM Bullet point razor which I got from a fellow Australian forum member just recently at our regular coffee shop met up The MMBT is a very mild razor compared to the MMOC. The new blade and the MMBT was great - but - mild as this razor is I managed to nick myself about 3 times. Mild doesn't mean you cannot get nicked. I face lathered with #1 Turkish. That really is a great brush Homebrew soap. 2 passes and cold face wash between passes Splash of Witch hazel. The MMOC is aggressive but you wind up the caution factor a bit and enjoy the results. The MMBT is mild and I need to appreciate [which I do] that mild is not indicative of a lack of efficient close shaving, and that it can bite. The shave was definitely BBS but because I nicked myself I call DFS. Steve
I did that too for some time, I had like eight different blades here and tried them in various razors but then I decided to get "downsize" so now I have about 4 type here but I was hoping to get down to just two but that didnt work out so well!
Lord blades are really great blades. My absolute favorites. They give really great, close, comfortable shaves with very little effort. Sadly their customer service is very lacking. =/

Bay Rum Bliss My first two passes on my face were at nine today and I feel great. I even did the first pass on my neck at nine as well. No drama. I dialed down to six for the last pass and four on my neck. I expected the aftershave to sting quite a bit, but it was all good. The Colonel quickly whipped up top quality lather over a thin layer of lime preshave butter. I like this razor better at higher settings... It seems to help me let the razor weight do the work more consistently. I used my favorite bay rum combination to produce this superb shave. Oh yes, I had a very nice shave this morning with the Frozen Tundra soap which is at the BRRRRRRRRRRR Level. It's one step milder than the Glacials, but I'd still rate it as a good face-freezer. The lather requires a bit of extra effort to get it going but it's well worth it. The skincare is magnificent.
