Well I think the $160 price tag probably has something to do with it . You had the chance for a Joris @ $40 and didn't jump on it. Was it Palladium coated? I guess being a rare metal is the reason it costs so much. Haven't really read up on the pro/cons of Palladium but the three that I have are sure are purdy
Planned Fat Tabac Tuesday SOTD '59 Gillette Fatboy razor Gillette "Spoiler" blade New Forest Alpolina 3 silvertip brush Myrsol Masaje Antisol preshave Tabula Rasa Patchouli shaving cream Myrsol Masaje Antisol post shave Tabac Eau de Cologne This should be a good one. I'm looking forward to using Antisol as both a pre and post shave lotion. I've found I prefer the pairing of Tabac EdC with The Tabula Rasa Patchouli than with Tabac shaving soap. Im thinking too much of a good scent is.....too much.
Indulgent Menthol Monday Deviation 30 Day Focus with a Cadet OC! I promise it's back to Williams tomorrow! I am serious about sticking to rules! But thanks guys ( @Seabs and @clint64 started it) for telling me to go get frosty! I really enjoyed a good two pass shave, face lathering the Stirling into a blissful session of menthol induced tears of joy. My face is still numb 42 minutes post shave. The Stirling is also a soap that is a bit tricky, but not too much water and you get slick lather that carries the intense scent of anise and enough menthol to take down a horse. I love it! It can't be an everyday thing, it's too intense for that...but know I remember how much fun menthol can be! Not for the faint of heart, like if you are unsure if you can handle Stirling Glacial, it's probably not for you. If you LOVE menthol...carry on with one of the coldest soaps ever. Day one on the blade, no issues. I am feeling super refreshed and ready to rock the Williams for the next 15 days! Have a Great Tuesday!
World Tournament of Blades - Russia vs. the World!! June 15, 2015 Prep - Hot shower and towel Brush - Omega Pro 48 Soap - Arko Razor - '59 Superspeed Blade - (1) Post - Alum, Nivea Balm The tournament arrives Stateside today! It's the Personna Lab Blue which is made in the USA, well at least for a bit longer anyway. This blade is a favorite of many and is the same blade as the more expensive Med Prep. The same you say? Yes, with one different.....the Med Prep undergoes an additional wash before wrapping to make it suitable for use in sterile environments. The Blue? Just a bit "dirtier". Lathered the Arko with the 48 and awayyyyyy we go. The Blue is a sharp blade, definitely up there with the better ones in that category. Smooth on the first pass, though I'm not sure it's quite as smooth as the Treet it is up against. Very, very, very close. I did the XTG pass and had no issues with smoothness so will have to think about that one. Did a clean up pass for the neck and definitely felt like I was getting irritated before I was done. Oh-oh....the alum is going to bite hard. So, pick up the alum, apply it as usual and yep.....ummmmmm.....nope.......welllllll........maybe.......I could have sworn I felt a burn before but it's not........ummmmmmmm......yeah I'm awake and......seriously....that's it? A minor sting and then nothing? Wow. The result? A very nice DFS. Ok, let's try scoring. Sharpness? Another 1. Can't call it anything else. Smoothness? While I feel it may have been ever so slightly rougher than the Treet the point is to grade this blade. I have to go with a 1. Irritation? Well if 1 is no irritation and 2 is a bit of burn that lingers then this is a 1.5. Had an initial burn that died right off. And the areas I expected it to be bad, it wasn't. Result? DFS=2. That one is simple. Total - 5.5 The winner........PERSONNA LAB BLUE!!! But by the closest of margins. A very even match. One more round of the Sweet Sixteen...The Derby vs. the Feather. I know it's like a David/Goliath thing for most but we'll see. I've never actually used the Derby and I don't like the Feather that much as a DE blade. We'll see how they perform. There's more to this post on the June 30 day thread.....beware...I edited it here in honor of the decorum of the SOTD faithful. We do try to be classy here after all.
I am in nearly daily contact with the owner of Extro. The only thing i can tell you, that the prices are great!!! The Aftershaves costs around 9€ each bottle. Shipping to Germany has cost me 15€. June 16 SOTD: Homemade PS Oil Vie-long Horsehair Brush Stirling Bay Rum SS Fatboy Stirling Unscented PSB CC Bay Rum AS
After this shave with the Proraso Green cream I can honestly say that as far as menthol goes it feels warm compared to a Glacial soap. It's still cooling, but far from freezing. The matching aftershave is quite a bit colder but the effect fades off quickly. I still got a good BBS shave which was enjoyable.
06/16/2015 Razor – ATT R2 with Triad Helix SS Blade – Feather (3) Brush – Rubberset 400-3 with WSP HMW Lather – Strop Shoppe Baker Street Post - Witch Hazel & Myrsol Antesol Sample Decided to change out the M2 plate for the R2 plate. I like the shave much better. I find the R2 to be very similar to the New LC in terms of efficiency but perhaps not as smooth. Very nice near BBS 3 pass shave. I look forward to using this set up for the next couple of weeks before sending it back to it's owner.
SOTD June 16, 2015 Prep: Hot facecloth followed by homemade lavender pre-shave oil Soap: Barrister & Mann Unscented Razor: Fendrihan DE Blade: Feather Brush: Omega Boar Bristle Aftershave: Hot facecloth followed by Lavender Witch Hazel Aftershave balm: Shea butter Mustache Wax: Badger This is my first time with B&M unscented…it arrived in the mail yesterday and I couldn’t wait to get up this morning to shave! I now understand why so many recommend this unscented soap and I must say it performed very well. It has a faint tallow scent, but it was not unpleasant, and it dissipated quickly. It was easy to build a good lather with my brush. My skin felt moisturized and clean. This one is a keeper…can’t wait to use it again. 10/10. I also took the time this morning to put in a bit of mustache wax as well...for that little something extra... Nice way to start the day…
