Not that I really need another straight razor...even though I'm sort of trying to 'build' an interesting 7-day set (I'll use that as an 'excuse') - but I came across this, to me, neat looking Puma razor with box and picked it up for $13. Now, just because it was inexpensive doesn't make it a good deal so I'm curious to hear if anyone here have any first-hand experience with the brand - and maybe with the same razor? Nowhere neat mint but I'm hoping it'll be a in good user-condition and/or can be easily restored to shave-ready.
Pumas are nice razors, and for $13, I'd say you did alright! Check the prices for used Pumas on ebay and you'll have a pretty good idea on the market value.
Thanks - well, in fairness mine isn't as nice as many of those I can see some corrosion(?), I think, at the front of the blade which may take some work to have "honed out". Looks nice enough though and I do like the case Bonus question: Any idea of what the "39" represents? Model number?
From experience,,, I am not liking the looks of the corrosion, especially the line along the tang.. These signs as well as the knowledge that many of the Puma scales are prone to cellrot worries me on that one... You might be needing new scales there only time and testing will tell the story They are however awesome shavers especially the older ones like you have
...or invest in some new scales. Ah, I see what you mean. I glanced at the photos and thought that corrosion marking was a bevel edge on the tang...
So the Puma arrived today and it wasn't quite as roaring as I had imagined it to be. The, I guess, replacement scales were rather...hm, "visually unappealing" in person and the razor just looked a bit more drab and battered than I had hoped for. Some 'jagged' corrosion on the edge, towards the toe... As much as it pains me to spend 15-or-so dollars on something that, I must admit, I will probably not do anything with (clean, hone and new scales doesn't quite seem justified for this piece of steel). It'll probably spend its life in its wooden box until the end of the year where I will try to recoup those dollars from selling it to someone who can give it a [better] home. Cheers.
