7/17/15 - Knockoutfriday !!! Late Post, been a busy day. Half the shave was with the straight, the other half with the ATT M1 plate I just got in the mail yesterday. All I can say is.... 07/18/2015 Razor – Mongoose B2 with Triad SS Helix Blade – Feather Super Pro (6) Brush – Every Ready with TGN Finest Lather – MdC Fougere Post - Witch Hazel and Myrsol F/Extra The time off from the Super Pro paid some dividends with this mornings shave. A fantastic 2 pass with touch ups provided a BBS. For me the Super Pro gives a spooky close shave. Finished up with the Myrsol F/Extra which has a nice classic scent and cooling menthol.

today's shave hot water wash with dove+ care and a washcloth Surrey white/ Korean silvertip (m) soap commander endurance j.a. Henckels#81 4/8 full hollow Gillette fatboy(d4)(7) persona lab(1.5) old spice grey peg today's shave was nice. I woke early idky. I used the spotted emperor for the passes, did pretty good too. a victory lap with yesterday's fatboy showed that I'm a little weak on my right side. the fatty cleaned that right up. finished with old spice. hope y'all did as well, or better.
Rough and Ready Today's shave was a little rough, and I was about to say it was a dud blade when I looked closer at the FatBoy's doors. I noticed that they were not perfectly lined up. I thought I'd broken the razor, but I opened and closed the doors and they shut perfectly. Now I know to carefully check that before my first pass. I welcomed The Colonel back today and it made excellent lather very easily from Ferox, but also increased the donut hole in the bottom of the jar significantly. I think I'm going to use Ferox every day until it's finished. Cologne Russe stung quite a bit, owing to the rough shave, but I still only got a couple very small weepers and now my face feels fine. 7/18/15 - Very Pleasant Shave! The only thing I shaved with the DE was my chin. The rest of my face was all Straight for 3 passes. This is my 3rd go at it and it's great. No cuts or irritation. It's just getting the angles and keeping a light touch. Totally different than a DE. I like it!!! I thought about starting a thread with me using and learning the straight. Not sure if anyone would be interested. LPL Sample WSP Monarch Silvertip Gold Monkey ATT Kronos M1 Astra SP (4) Stetson Aftershave
BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR is all I could say - the Glacial Obsidian soap did a hell of a number on my face. The first pass was frigid, but the second one felt like I was getting frostbite. The Rubby Dubby Doo nearly numbed me altogether. BBS again with so little effort!
I'd be interested, I'm in the same boat as you. I normally post my results in the, " what straight did you use today" thread. I hope I don't bug the experienced straight razor users.
I'll have to go check that out. I've posted on there my 2 straights I've used, but that was just because I wanted to say, hey, I'm using a straight like y'all too. Haha It would be nice to have a permanent thread for people's beginning experiences with a straight. I know I could use it.
Glad it's going so well and you are having fun learning straights! Still new myself and the chin is still a very slow, choppy experience but improves with each shave. I would love to follow your thread. Seems to be a few of us that started straights recently and think it would be fun to read and contribute experiences and ideas!
SOTD July 18, 2015 Pre-shave: shower, hot face cloth, rose EO pre-shave oil Razor: Gillette Slim Blade Merkur Brush: Omega Cream: TOBS Natural Post: WH, Shea Butter, coconut oil Much better shave today. After yesterday's shave I reevaluated a few things. Today I spent a bit more time on my pre-shave routine, I changed my blade to a Merkur and dialed down my Slim to 2...and I had a nice 2 pass WTG shave. The TOBS cream is amazing...so slick and such a thick lather. I am ready to face the day and take on the world...

July 18 MdC facial soap Gillette Fat Boy Feather blade (3) Edwin Jagger XL Synthetic STF V2.0 Geo F. Trumper's Coconut Oil cream Two passes plus touch-ups Alum, Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm The shaves this week with the FB on 7 have been very nice and close. For some variety, I traded Arko for Trumper's Coconut cream and the Omega boar for an EJ Synthetic this morning. This was one of the first creams I used when I started wet shaving, so it will be fun to try it again. The EJ Synthetic brush has nice backbone, soft tips, a great handle, and no soak time is required prior to the shave. I'll stick with this set up for a few days, although I plan to move the FB up to 8 beginning tomorrow. It's been fun exploring the range of aggressiveness on the FB this month. So far, a setting of 7 has been my overall favorite. Enjoy the weekend!
