Okay, so I bought something in No Buy July. But, I've had this $12 in my pocket since June and I think that means I have still held true to the NBJ effort. Anyway, look what I picked up at a local consignment shop. I have not yet cleaned it, but it looks as though it was never used. There are no scratches or signs of wear anywhere on it and all of the plating is intact. I think it is a New Long Comb with the fat/bar handle from the 1930's. I found something online that called this a "Bostonian" set. I'm hoping you guys can help me figure out what I bought. I can't wait to use it!
Really nice for $12! Definitely a long comb NEW. Made in the 1930's. Really nice shave. Don't worry nobody will notice your NBJ dalliance.
For a chance to pick that up for $12 I not only would have fallen off the wagon, I would have set fire to it, and rolled it off a cliff.
I think I just got lucky on this one. Now, if I could just get lucky and pick the 6 winning numbers to the lottery... Either way, I can't wait to try it out. It's going into my rotation and will be a nice compliment to my other New long comb with the ball end handle. I wonder if the fat handle will make it feel much different than the narrow ball end handle.
I must buy things when I can afford them. If I waited until August, I might not have been able to. I kind of wish I had went with the BK8, but this way I can see if I like Kent brushes and but the 8 later if I like it.
Got my Kobar this past weekend. I really like the blade but the scales are crying out to be replaced....
Newly acquired Swedish C.V. Heljestrand Kindal Safety Razor Set..... After a Spit & Polish.... Another shot..... Another.... And Lastly.... The postman arrived with my Swedish Made C.V. Heljestrand Kindal Safety Razor Set this morning.....I had been looking for one of these Swedish made Lather Catchers for a while but the price was too high, until I came across this one....You never know what you are getting until you get it in the hand so to speak.....Well, what can I say....She's a Real Swedish Beauty ....I should have wiped my paw marks off her lovely polished face.....This Lather Catcher is a real heavy weight as far as lather catchers go......She's so well made and heavily nickel plated..... The Kindal has a Bar Design and takes a modern GEM Blade with ease although I am adamant that my maiden shave with her is going to be with a wedge blade that you see in the photo..... I spent a lot of time in Scandinavia specializing in Artic & Mountain Warfare whilst serving with 45 Commando, Royal Marines.....I sure got a taste for Scandinavian Culture and was somewhat spoiled for life after my encounters with Norwegian & Swedish Goddesses .....Nothing has ever been the same.....I took a photo of the Swedish Made Kindal in front of my Ferguson Clan Plaque....It felt fitting to show the Kindal with its mutual heritage of the Northern Hemisphere Celtic Roots.... The Swedish Made C.V. Heljestrand Kindal Safety Razor Set has found a warm and welcome Celtic Home..... Billy
Wow, that cleaned up really, really well! "Kindal" is also a nice tie-in to your past experiences with Scandinavian Goddesses. Link. "Kindal a girl that likes to party and have a good time even though she is not the greatest beer pong partner...she enjoys hunting for squirrel and can easily pull an all-nighter if needed"
Yeah, I used Autosolve Aluminium Polish.....Its a good polish for alloys, but I only use it with heavy plated razors as a one off first clean as its a really efficient cutting paste.....I finished it off with Toothpaste..... I enjoyed being a Kindal Girls Squirrel.... Billy
Got a few razors in a lot the other day. The cleaned up nice. I believe the Krona is NOS. Super Speed TV Special and 1948-50 Aristocrat. So does anyone have the clam shell Aristo case for the 48-50. Here's my 46-47 with it.
