Thursday Soap: Stirling "Naked & Smooth" Brushes: Plisson synthetic vs mystery knot Razor: Feather AS-D2 Blade: Astra SP After: Cold rinse, CeraVe lotion In my SOTD I face lathered with the Plisson synthetic on one side of my face, and a mystery knot newly acquired from an eBay seller. I was able to face lather fairly well by pinching the knot firmly between thumb and forefinger. This new knot is described by the seller as "Synthetic Knot Shaving Brush Very Similar to L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic 24mm". It certainly looks very much like the Plisson knot. The fibers in the two knots look identical and size and shape are very similar. On my face I could tell the difference, the new knot has more backbone than the Plisson, but not too much. Certainly not the strong backbone of the Whipped Dog synthetic knot, which to me is too firm and springy. The mystery knot has a small glue bump that probably is responsible for the backbone compared to the Plisson, which does not have any noticeable glue bump. If I had to pick just one, I think I like the Plisson better, but it's close. The mystery knot is a good one. It will go into a restoration that I am planning. Here is a comparison of the two from the side: Here is a comparison from the top (Plisson is on the left):
So how do you like this shave tonic? Early December 2013 I bought a bottle and as chance would have it, my granddaughter wanted to give me a present for Christmas but money was tight for my daughter so I gave my daughter this bottle so they could wrap it and my granddaughter could place it under the tree to me from her. Well she decided to place it in my stocking and when she placed it on the hook over the fireplace it came crashing down and shattered. It smelt nice while cleaning it up and ever since then I have gone back their site now and then to buy another but always out of stock. I paid $19 back then and now $25 which from the brief moment of smelling the Tonic, seems pretty reasonable. Another site was selling this months ago @ $35 and I just couldn't pull the trigger knowing what I had paid for it.
THURzDAY Last shave until Sunday I managed to get an early morning shave in before spending the majority of time packing camping equipment into the truck. I haven't been camping since about…oh…..1997. My wife and I are joining another couple for a few days in the wild. Tents, sleeping bags, flashlights. I've reached the age where my idea of 'roughing it' is when the ice machine is on a different floor. Oh well, it should be an 'experience.' Have a blessed Thursday, all! Wish me luck…..
Citrus Thursday I used my CRSW Citrus sample today. I hadn’t used it in a long time, and that is a shame. It really is a top notch soap. The scent is strong without overpowering, and the lather is as good as any I’ve used. I went with ML pre shave because of its lime scent and the pair worked very well together. Since the lather was so good, I left the Fatboy on nine for all three passes and the result is a drama free BBS. I finished with HTGAM/PAA Gondolier, so my face feels great and I smell great. 23jul15 As most of you know, I just got a membership to Classy Man Shave Club. My first box came yesterday, so today was going to be an all Classy Man Shave. Well, lets just say I'm glad I'm a somewhat experienced wet shaver. I spent about 15-20 min trying to get the blade lined up straight and even in the razor. (I'll post pics in another thread.) So, after that, I was just ready to shave. CM razor (modeled after the 89 head) Gillette 7 o'clock(1) CM brush VDH soap (only item not used from the box) WSP Barbacool aftershave Surprisingly ended up with a decent shave even after the blade fiasco. Had the most audio feedback ever from a DE. Luckily I was extra careful and went light and slow, so no excess scrapes or nicks.
Don't you just hate when a razor/blade combination just doesn't work? Unfortunately our faces have to suffer the consequences of venturing into the unknown. Ah, but nothing ventured nothing gained. Hope your face feels better.

I am sensing that you are happy with your AS-D2. I wish my photos could capture mine like yours do. Nice. How's that brush?
Yes I am! Thank you! It is hard to get a picture of the Feather, I had to move the light around a bit. I use my iPhone 6 which has turned out to be a great camera. I highly recommend the Stirling brush. It's as soft as my WD Silvertip which is my favorite brush. I can't compare it to a Plisson as I don't have one. Plus you can't beat the price.
•1958 Gillette Red Tip •new Big Ben blade •Arko Men "Cool" shaving cream BBS...of course, it's a Red Tip. I've been waiting to run this experiment. I doctored up a Ranger Tech with doors from a broken Senator, and ended up with something more aggressive than it ought to be. Comparing them side by side with the same blade, if the Red Tip is a 5, the Ranger/Senator is a 6. It's got more bite than I need so I'll be including it in the Wonderful Travel Box of Wonder. a/s: something blue and mentholly. PS Really like that cream...thick, rich and cushiony. Wish it had menthol, though.
