Hi Folks, I've been shaving with a DE for 10 months or so. Less blood every day ;-) I've recently started shaving my head completely so I get a lot more practice than when I was just cleaning up my beard. I've been using a Merkur HD classic, but recently added a Futur and, pause, a slant (I'm either brave or stupid ;-). Actually the first shave with the slant wasn't bad and I really like the Futur. Thanks very much! I don't remember where I got the idea to start using a DE razor. Some searching found LeasureGuy's blog, Mantic's Youtube videos, the article on cheap shaving for newbies at shaveMyFace (I like cheap - especially when I don't know if I'll stick with it). That lead to the blade sampler from West Coast Shaving, and my Merkur HD from Internet Knife Center (everyone had enough product placement yet ;-). My family thought I was nuts (but were polite enough not to say anything) when I would come out looking like the loser of a cat fight but smiling anyway! I like learning new (or in this case, old) things and I love a challenge. The most remarkable thing was the transition of an unthinking task to a pleasurable activity. I look forward to shaving everyday and that was certainly not the case before discovering DE razors. I've learned a lot reading about other's experiences, thought it was time to participate (a little, I'm shy) and say "Thank you" for sharing. Best regards, Brian

Welcome. The Merkur HD is a excellent shaver however its mild so you need a sharp blade. I use the Feather,Polsilver & of late Wilkinson Sword (German) & that does the trick
Thanks for the suggestions, Magic. I like Feather as well. I haven't tried Polsilver but will give that a go. I've noticed several different Wilkinson Sword, White, Black and Economy (if I recall correctly). Which is the German? I shaved with the HD until just this week when my Slant, Futur, and Weishi arrived. The Weishi is even gentler that the HD! I tried a 7a.m. in it and ended up going to the Futur with a Sharp to get a satisfactory final pass. I guess I'll be trying something sharper with the Weishi as well.
Hi Mike, I'd be happy to try a Super Speed, or a Tech if I can find one in good condition at a reasonable price. Fatboy's seem to be getting a tad pricy. I'm pretty happy with my Futur so far though. Brian
