HOW NOT TO CLEAN YOUR iPHONE: So what happens when your iPhone 6 accidently gets tossed into the washing machine with your bed sheets? Well, after 48 minutes of warm water rinse-wash-spin cycles, you are left with an entirely unresponsive Apple paperweight. No life. Plugged it in…no response. I disassembled the phone into two halves (cover with screen, base plate with battery and the ‘guts.’’ I removed the 1810 mAh battery and, as you see in the photo, it did not come away entirely intact after the wash cycle. Apple wants $80-plus for a repair service fee, so I picked up a new battery from ebay for $9. I took the phone halves and placed them in a ziplock bag with about a dozen silica gel desiccant packets and left them there for about 5-6 days. My new battery arrived and so I reassembled the iPhone with the new battery.
Moment of truth: Plugged it in and…..LIFE! Home screen appeared and the phone was now charging..a good sign!
I checked on it an hour later...no response.

I hooked the phone up to my mac, opened iTunes and hit 'restore'—which downloaded the latest OS to the phone.
Phone booted up...looked fine. Navigation time...whoops, I can't escape any app as the 'home' button' when pressed, takes a snapshot of the screen. As does the 'sleep' button. I now have quite the gallery of home screen snap shots in my photo album.

Time to visit the Sprint store and get a new phone (still under warranty).
