The secret to get a great shave:
No fog on mirror, cell phone on vibrate in next room, swmbo is out of house, quiet time, quiet house.
2 passes wtg. Nice and slow. I can hear the SR cutting the stubble.
Touch up chin with DE. SR Still got me. Forgot how sharp it is. It's just as sharp as the Bur, but spike point. 2 cuts on (left) weak side by ear. And felt the tickle of a cut at sideburns, but made quick correction. The alum and pencil took care of this. Two wtg passes and cheeks are BBS. Love this razor.

I haven't used this razor in a year or two. It's a $30 razor from an antique/junk store in Danville, Virginia. Excellent shave.

Leisurely morning shave using the FEON for the third consecutive day. 20 laps on the red latigo pre-shave. This morning's lather was thick, slick and went on like slippery enamel—a perfect base for a close, clean shave with this fine J-West razor. Three-passes, plus touch-up…one small nick on the lower jaw (whoops!)…finished with the bracing 'Snake Bite.' I am enjoying the ease and maneuverability off this razor. Overall a DFS!

Good to see you putting the ol' Feon through the paces Kevin!

Tonights shave was a shave test of a honing on jamespasini69's Goldedge. When she showed up in the mail, after taking a look at the bevel, It was discovered to have the very slightest twist in the spine. An exaggerated illustration drawn by myself (sorry, I ate all my crayons...) will attempt to demonstrate what I'm talking about here:

About 75% of the "problem razors" I've honed seem to suffer from this same affliction. It's about the first thing I look for after I check sharpie wear after those first three strokes or so when starting to set a bevel. The problem is easy enough to fix, but you must proceed with caution. Applying gentle but constant pressure to the spine in a counter twist while frequently checking your bevel with the sharpie and about three strokes. James' was just a wee, wee bit out of center. Not enough to be obvious, just enough to cause problems.

Once the bevel checking was indicating even honing along both sides of the edge, I set the bevel with a 1K Naniwa SS, proceeding with pyramid honing to 3K, 8K, and 12k (all Naniwa SS). I then finished on the Suehiro Gokumyo 20 K, which is in my humble opinion capable of producing results second only to a world class Nakayama as a finisher, and is substantially faster and easier to use than that J-Nat. This was followed by 10 strokes on .5 micron diamond on felt, 10 strokes on .25 micron CrOx on webbing, 30 strokes on the suede secondary strop of a Kanayama, and finally 60 strokes on the Kanayama 90,000 primary cordovan strop. Result: HHT4-5 along the razors entire edge.

Final result: what a sweet, sharp razor. James, you're going to really enjoy this razor, she's a honey!

Thanks. I was so sad when the razor was delivered and the tip was broken. This razor sold for 99 cents on eBay, with $9 shipping. I got the seller to refund half the shipping because of the break. They are kind of warped as well, so after I am comfortable with using my hones, my next shave related project will be rescaling this razor, and really polishing out the blade.

Hart 7/8 rescaled in G10 gold with purple liner by gssixgun - this razor is a heavy monster & I really like the feel. The Harts have gotten a few bad raps in the past but this one always delivers a wonderful shave. I love 1/4 hollow & weight
RR Captains Choice Bay Rum & La Toja crème- . ubelather. I have many RR soaps but don't get them out as much as I used too. Not sure why because they rock
AS - Floid Black label - one of the best AS's I own
    Soap Commander "Passion balm"
Brush - a nice little badger brush sent to me by Doug Carey- it is small but mighty

Nice definition & explanation of the problem (with rendering!) and the paces you put it through to end up with a sweet-edged razor! :happy088:
It's been my experience as well to find many of these older blades having a slightly askew shape. Usually with the DDs, the scales gets a bit wonky as well.
