Oh, oh...you used that word again, I have a feeling we're about to be visited by GDC again. He's like that bird on "You Bet Your Life" when you say the secret word.
Woo-hoo, we have winners! Well this just proves that there are more Marxist's on this site than I thought. Technically, Clint had the first correct and most complete answer, just edging out Carlos D. by 20 minutes. Others showed that they were somewhat familiar with Marx Brothers movies, while one went so far as to quote dialogue - always a winner in my book! And Herm started all the foolishness by worrying about my safety concerning a non-existent jealous husband. So the following should PM me with your mailing address: @Herm2502 @cmorris357 @clint64 @wristwatchb @Bama Samurai @Bill_F PIFs will be sent out as soon as possible. (I'm planning distribution of a discontinued shaving product...just waiting for it to be discontinued.) Hey, if I missed anyone, just PM me with your address.
That was my experience with Slim. I didn't have much luck with the low end settings. The tension on the blade is just a part of the aggressiveness equation. Head geometry, blade gap, blade exposure, and (I think) blade tension all influence the quality we refer to as "aggressive". at higher settings, the Slim performed more like a three piece razor of moderately aggressive design. Definitely felt it was mechanically "looser" at the lower settings.
@Douglas Carey @clint64 @Drygulch @Norcalnewb +1 on AS in glass. I see it was a Fine weekend. I need to just order some next go round. Too many knowledgeable people on TSD using it to ignore any longer.
A well designed mild, efficient razor? SS variants are exactly that. And I agree about how Phoenix. I am basically very surprised by how mild it feels, yet it cuts so efficiently.
Mass reply to the weekend. Ouch!! What was going on around here? There's a bloody mess everywhere. Here's to seven days without Styptic, and no bloody commutes!
Day 8 - 9 August 2015 30 Day Rule - Phoenix OC New blade today, and it really showed that days six and seven weren't really as good as they might have been. Good shave, was able to do the 2 pass routine, no issues. The Alum felt great and the Clubman burned like Clubman does. Spent the day up at 8000 feet, it was 76F and a beautiful day amongst the fir trees of Clear Creek County. Other than that, all is quiet in Colorado. Have a sterling Monday!
Aforementioned gore excepted, it appeared to be one of the best weekends on the 30 Day board in a while. It was fun to catch up with thread, I laughed more than usual.
Change in plans: After Herb’s helpful insight Saturday: I’ve decided to jump on the Adjustable August bandwagon to see if I can get the results I want with less effort. Beginning today, I plan to use my Fat Boy to continue my blade trials. I’ll start by finishing up my Astra Superior Platinum that already has one shave on it. Then I’ll take the Gillette 7 0'Clock Super Stainless (Green) I have in my Super Speed and finish it out in the Fat Boy. Then it’s back to the Gillette Silver Blue to verify it is still my go to blade. I’ll start with a setting of 4 and see how that works for me. Shave #2 with the Astra Superior Platinum blade in my '59 Fat Boy. 2 Full passes: Pass 1 (on setting 4): WTG on my face and XTG on my neck. Pass 2 (set to 4): ATG. At this point, I had a near BBS shave. Lathered up again for touch up. I used some stretching and blade buffing to get the remaining stubble below my jawline. Unlike most mornings, I did not re-lather to do additional touchup. Aqua Velva seemed quieter this morning, but I could feel some areas of stubble while rubbing it in. But once the A/S had dried, all of those areas had receded, and I was left with a nice BBS shave. A very pleasant BBS shave from the Astra Superior Platinum and the Fat Boy. I hope everyone has a great week!
08/10/2015 Razor – Gillette Slim (J3) set on 9 Blade – Ladas (3) Brush – Zenith Pro Aluminum Boar B2 Lather – Soap Commander Passion Post - Witch Hazel & Captain’s Choice Bay Rum with Menthol Another great shave with the Slim set on 9 for all three passes. Ended up with a very near BBS which is about par for me on a work morning. It's been awhile since I used the Soap Commander Passion. As with all their soaps it was very easy to lather and has a very nice spicy scent. Finished off with witch hazel and a splash of CC Bay Rum with menthol added. I'm glad that I bought menthol crystals to add some of my aftershaves.
Phoenix Comparison Focus Day 9: Homemade PS Oil Stirling Synthetic Brush TSD Lanolin Iced Sub-zero '58 Gillette TV Special Osage Rub Stirling Unscented PSB Barbasol Pacific Rush AS Another great shave with the TV Special. Such a great shaving razor, and the Iced Sub-zero / Stirling brush combination had mounds of thick, creamy, and slick lather whipped up. A great start to the work week.
