I gave up on it quite a few years ago because I foung that it left my skin a tad dry and I didn't get on with the scents. One of the easiest soaps to lather, though.
I have both the regular and unscented soaps. I haven't used unscented yet, but I do like using the regular scent. I received a free scented MdC bath bar with my shave soap purchase, and I use it most days as part of my pre-shave routine. It can be a drying soap, but I have grown to really enjoy the scent. I'm going to miss that little $25 bar of soap when it's all used up.
I have the fougere and love the scent, it is super easy to lather but lacks some of the slickness and protectiveness of my favourites also it is very drying so... it gets just occasional use so I voted no.
My favorites are Queen Charlotte creams (croap), always give me a great, slick protective lather and aftershave feel and I enjoy their Fougere scent too. Plus they hold up under heat when I use my scuttle. Castle Forbes creams and AoS tallow round out my top 3. Tabac is very close too, I find when I travel soaps perform differently and Mike's works great when I travel. It's part of the fun to try different products and see what works for you.
I use both scented and Fougere at least once a week. Had the unscented as well but sold it before using because I enjoy the scented versions so much. Last I checked due to exchange rate, it is much cheaper even with shipping than buying from supplier is the USA. Plus they throw in a bath soap which my wife enjoys.
This is quite true! We all have different experiences and shaving equipment (plus, add in the variables of water hardness and user technique), so what may work for one doesn't always translate to another. Outside of MdC, other soaps that continue to impress me are L'Occitane Cade, TSD sticks, and a new croap I've had the pleasure of testing.
I have the foguere version, but seldom use it. Mostly because it tends to burn my face half the times I use it. I have considered trying the unscented version, but my interest in this soap has somewhat faded. I think I will try the Le Peren Lucien soap instead
You might try leaving the jar opened and sitting out for a while. That has helped me in the past with soaps with which I had negative reactions.
Thanks that was a great tip, I'll give that a try. I have left it open for a day, but I will give it a few more days and see if I notice a difference.
I hope it works for you. In fact MdC recommends that the soap be used and stored with the lid off. Not practical for those of us that rotate thru soaps. I did use MdC for the entire month of March and just left the jar open next to the sink.
I use it when it comes up in rotation. It a really nice soap but doesn't get any special attention. I love all my soaps equally. Lol!!
I will try Mr. Clint64's suggestion first. My jar has been airing out since he posted his recommendation. I have used it once since then with a decent result. But since I mentioned that I have had troubles only half the times I've used it, I need to try it a few more times to actually reach a conclusion. That being said, I am tempted to try the unscented, but maybe not this year.
This is pretty much my experience exactly. The fougere scent is really nice to my nose, I like it a lot. I just don't find the performance and after shave feel of MdC to be that good though. It is certainly a quality soap, but isn't in my top 10 for performance and won't be replaced.
I use it about once a week. Love the scent, not thrilled about anything else about it. Would never use it with an aggressive razor, or a straight razor, where good lather is critical.
