I've found that if you wet your fingers and rub them on an alum block, you can get a non slip grip on your skin even if it's wet and soapy.
I for one would love to see the comparison as I have an E2, E3 and an I2 - and have NEVER shaved with any of them! Hope to get to 3-4 SEs in September!
And if you keep shaving with that Slim at #9, it will be hard to find enough whiskers to shave once every day....you might have to wait through that 12 hour BBS then the 18 hour DFS and then another 4 or 5 hours to reach 5 o'clock shadow status.....}8^))
Ohhh man....are you going to have a ball! I'm looking forward to your Future posts with eager anticipation...
Well that brings up an excellent point. By time I get to the 24 hour mark, I have some minor stubble on my "problem" areas - jawline and below - and hardly anything on my cheeks! I could skip a day and be fine (especially on weekends or vacations) - and Mrs. F. wouldn't think I'm so obsessed! But it took me 40 years of cart shaving to discover all the benefits of wetshaving, that the moment I wake up - I just wanna do it again!
Why? Would someone tell me why? Why do we get like this? I'm a 60 year old man and some of my friends (and SWMBO) think I've lost my mind! (Yet she has come around, and she and the kids think it's great to see me getting so much pleasure from it.)
Don't let Mrs. F fool you...Mrs. F and my Mrs. C probably do think us a tad excentric, BUT they dig the manicured appearance, smooth and nice smelling face......................at least thats my story, and I'm sticking to it...
Day 18 - 19 August 2015 30 Day Rule - Phoenix OC Phoenix OC Rapira Swedish Supersteel L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic La Toja Shave Stick Alum Pinaud Citrus Musk Have a triumphant Thursday!
That's why I like this site. It's kind of like hanging around in the day room at the asylum. The people on the outside might not understand us, but we understand each other. Good night, it's time to take off my tinfoil hat and go to bed.
I am looking forward to your comparison of the E2 and I2. I have a I1 and really enjoy using it more than my J3.
I am glad I am not the only one. My beard growth does not necessarily require a shave every day, although I have provide an example at work for the people who report to me, so there is some justification to shave daily during the week. On the weekends, however, I used to never shave. Since I started wet shaving last October, I can count on one hand the number of days I have missed, and that includes two separate vacations. My wife definitely thinks I am obsessed, and AD'S contribute to that perception. The only thing that really helps keep her from getting too upset is that this hobby, obsession, etc. is done at home, so I am not away a bunch, like when I played golf a bunch. Plus, my little boy and sometimes even my middle daughter will shave with me, so I get some quality time in with them.
I read all the same about maneuverability, but could not tell enough difference. May have been user error, but I just found the FB more pleasurable.
Phoenix Comparison Focus Day 19: Homemade PS Oil Stirling Synthetic Brush Pre de Provence Phoenix Dbl OC Stirling Unscented PSB Wholly Kaw Fougere Bouquet After four great shaves with my Fatboy, I am back with the Phoenix. Another great shave with it. This comparison with the FB is going to be difficult. It is just so different in that it is more aggressive when set on 7, so the feel is different than the Phoenix. On a different note, the Pre and Wholly Kaw were both great this morning. My face feels smooth and soft, and I smell great too.
30 day Focus - Day 19 MDC Lavender Face Lathered Rapira Stainless Blade (Day 1 on blade, Day 1 on Rapira Swedish Stainless) Slim Adjustable set to 8 3 passes The Rapira Swedish Stainless did a very fine job today. This blade always provides a smooth shave for me. 3 passes and smooth as silk.
I am not able to shave every day for more than about three days. My face gets irritated and looks worse than a stubble shadow if I do. The good news is that I don't typicly see a shadow until about 36 hours after my last shave. With cartridges, I shaved on Mondays and Thursdays, but always had a shadow by the second day. I enjoy shaving more now, and it helps with setting the example for my direct reports as well.
SOTD I hope you Gents don't mind if I jump in late? I'll run through August and through September. August 20,2015 Prep: Hot Shower. Axe Shield Face Wash Razor: Mongoose B3 Dr. Bomber handle Blade: Feather Pro Guard Brush: Stirling Synthetic Lather: MdC Post: Alum. Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: Fine Clean Vetiver First shave with the Mongoose! WOW! The Mongoose is beautiful! Well balanced, plenty of hefty. Great finish. The wider shaving head will take a bit to get used to. Loading the blade is very easy, was it worth the 11 week wait? Oh YES. I did a 3 pass shave but if I'm being honest I could still be shaving MdC was the obvious choice for the Mongoose maiden voyage. So far the Feather Pro Guard blades seem to be a ok. Thanks for having me! Kerry "Forget yesterday--it has already forgotten you. Don't sweat tomorrow--you haven't even met. Instead, open your eyes and your heart to a truly precious gift--today." 8/20/15 SOTD (Shave 11 of this Focus) Two days’ growth Prep: Hot shower Razor: Ontario Cutlery Co. 5/8 (Muted) Spike Point Strop: Drygulch Chromexcel/ Linen Soap: Jabonman Lima-Incienso (Menthol) Brush: Omega 1066 Boar Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, Thayer’s Witch Hazel Aftershave: Pinaud Clubman with Menthol added Jaboman soap is awesome. Very easy to lather, and gives a slick cushioned lather. When this tub is gone, I will be reaching out the guy in Spain to get more. The Omega 10066 is a workhorse brush that makes building a lather extremely easy, especially with this soap. I spent some more time with the hones last night, and I got this razor pretty close to where it needs to be. It was smooth and just needed a light touch on my first N/S pass. On my second S/N pass, I did find myself using a little more pressure, and keeping the razor at a shallower angle. I did some touch up on my neck and chin, and got my only cut today, while using pressure on XTG on my chin. Very small nick that the cold water rinse took care of. Started rinsing my face and realized I had caught the baby! I am still going to see if I can get this razor a little more keen, but am very excited about the progress.
Thanks! After all you are my inspiration to go back to the higher settings. I figure if you could do it then...right? Thanks also for the compliment on the razor!
