New to wet shaving. Using a DE Parker 96R. My neck is my most problematic area where I get the most razor burn. Any good tips to minimize this? I am using alum block which seems to help
Thank I was trying to get it up when I smelled supper burning. I hope the so like slightly darkened burgers.
Light touch and only one pass with the grain for the first month or so. Your skin will get used to wet shaving but it takes some time. I would not be able to shave my neck at all without stretching the skin taut. I pull up near my ears and sideways around the Adam's apple. I look up and pull down for the center. And lastly I make funny faces to help where only moving my jaw will tighten the skin.
For me, shaving with the grain is pointless on the neck--against or across is all that works. And +1 on Argh's stretching, it helps.
I think mantic covers this in his video, but I haven't watched it recently. Anyhow, the "bullfrog" technique and short strokes work well for me. That, and don't try for BBS (baby butt smooth) until you get your technique down and realize that the neck area may well be that one spot that will always give you a problem, as many of us have come to accept. Although, with time and practice, it will improve.
That's my mistake I'm making right now for sure. I'm learning how to use my DE razor and also trying to get my neck baby butt smooth during that process. Going to slow down and focus on the neck now

I had the same problem as u when I started. No pressure and angle is a very big part of no irritation. I also had to do a bit of beard mapping to really learn what wtg/xtg/atg was on my neck as my hair grows in several directions. Lastly is prep. I don't use any preshave just a face wash before I shave. But I do face lather and t took me a while to learn what good protective lather was. Give it time and it will happen. Not saying u don't know what ur doing . Trust me I didn't in the beginning! Mantics videos r in my mind the best teaching tools on the web for new wetshavers. Good luck buddy and welcome!
IMO you should concentrate on getting an irritation, nick free shave when you first start out. BBS will come with time, technique, practice and patience.
Welcome to TSD. Lot's of good advice already given. Just take you time and master the technique and the results will come. You really can't rush the process so just enjoy the learning process.
Welcome! I find that going wtg only on the neck completely eliminates razor burn there. Not as close a shave but comfortable. I can't do any xtg. I can do atg but have to go slow and be careful with minimal pressure. Good luck! Also, as your technique gets better over months you can get much closer shaves with less irritation
Aye, I think the Old Chinese Maxim comes into play here....."Some thing comes from Nothing".....What the Chinese meant by that was is not about focusing on the end result in this case achieving a BBS Result....As you say...Its about correct technique and the desired end result will emanate from not looking for it through the correct way.... Welcome aboard Sir.... Billy
Welcome to TSD! You have gotten some good advice regarding stretching the skin and not chasing the baby! Take your time and focus on getting technique down. Feel free to join the 30 Day Rule group to focus on technique and get some great advice and encouragement!
