30 Day Rule - Phoenix OC

Day two on the blade, and I've officially reached cruise control on this particular razor. I used first pass buffing on the chin and even a little ATG for the automatic two pass smoothness. Alum, ISZ and the Veg was how I wrapped it up today. It was a nice shave to end a long day. Weather is much improved, and I got a lot done today. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

Ok boys and girls, today is the day we try for the "grail shave". DFS in one pass. Can it be done with this setup? Let's review. The 1964 Slim on 9 and the Super-Max Super Platinum blade. One of the best in the box. (Why don't I order this one in bulk?) On 5 yesterday the razor and blade gave me a fantastic two pass DFS. If I'm going to get the grail it has to be on this setup I think. And, to enhance the chance I'm going to use БоСФат - the best brush/soap combo I have. Why take chances, right?

Lathered up and I have to say I think the brush was ready to go this morning. It loaded very fast off of the damp puck of Fat and produced an outstanding lather. Now, since it's only a one pass (if it works) I don't care about the leftover. I'm not going to relather unless this fails.

I changed my technique just a bit, using short strokes on the face and going G-slide on the neck with a little bit of XTG follow up. Finished the pass, rinsed, checked, and................

Yes, there it is. A DFS. I'm not going to say a fantastic DFS but definitely better than CCS. Amazing result from this combo and while I celebrated my ability to accomplish this I also felt a bit of disappointment because the shave was over. One pass just goes too fast, even when concentrating on technique changes and going for that kind of finish. Kind of killed the fun. Oh well, I checked the Alum and found it quiet and threw on the Veg to complete a perfect morning.

As the day went on I checked occasionally and I can say that by the end of the day my face wasn't as smooth as normal. Clearly it wasn't a great DFS but like I said, enough to call it one. No rough patches or areas that were unpresentable. Now I have to figure out what blade to use tomorrow. See if I can find one that may be able to do this again. Here comes Friday everybody....we survived another week!

Tonight's shave featured the usual equipment, my Lord L6 razor, GSB blade, VDH Boar brush, Stirling MITA.

Used the same process as yesterday with XTG on the chin and neck with WTG on the cheeks. I think I may have a keeper for first pass. Like yesterday it was super smooth for a first pass, no irritation, no blood. Relatered up and proceeded with the ATG on neck and chin and XTG on the cheeks. Another excellent shave! Very super smooth, may have even caught the baby again! Will use the cold water splash and WH to verify.

Not quite BBS as several spots popped up after the splashes. A little touch up and I think I will give this one DFS Plus in the end. Main thing is it felt great and natural. Just stuck the blade to my face, had the angle and went for it. Hoping the rest of August and beyond go this well!

I'm so jealous - a one pass shave. I gotta try that sometime, on the morning after a really close shave.

Well that would give you a slight advantage yes. Or a morning after a late shave the morning before. Like I said, though, it was elation followed by a real letdown. No more lather and time to zen out before heading out to work. Fortunately I was able to nap while driving there this morning. That's always an advantage.

I get exactly what you mean. I was a bit letdown myself once I realized my regular shaves only need to be two passes.

But here's the thing that REALLY CONCERNS us -

I can see where it could be an advantage, but how safe is that?!!

i would shave twice per day if I only could. I second your sentiment!

Well there are two main routes to get to my job, and the commute either way, assuming no jams, is about 50 minutes. So, my car is very familiar with the roads and is pretty well behaved. Once Google tells me which one is clear I can just aim it on the right route since the car is well trained. Also, I do live in the St. Louis area and go through North St. Louis on the interstate. The noise of the running gun battles and drive bys in the neighborhoods along the way wakes me up enough to navigate fairly safely. A lot of coffee in the mornings helps too. Hopefully all of that helps calm your fears.

I spend about the same monthly average as when I used carts, I just use cooler stuff now and actually enjoy shaving. That's worth a lot to me.

Yeah, I suppose, in some odd sort of way...I think.

First strike offense as Adam suggests. This is a war for real estate, if you don't put a flag down, it only gets harder later.

These two have been accomplished. The Den is already in (since she is moving into my house initially) and the counter space usage has already been approved (of course there is only limited space for new stuff, but I do get a drawer and under the cabinet!) and she has even purchased a couple razors for inclusion. So I am on my way. I also make sure I get approval of scents and then she is definitely the one that decides what stays and what goes!
