1. This shave was great - the Black Ice soap is awesome. It's got terrific lather and more than enough menthol in it to satisfy me. I'd say it's a bit more cooling than Proraso Green. The Alt Innsbruck aftershave felt REALLY cold when I slapped it on!
  2. I recently rediscovered a pack of Dorco blades that I hadn't realized I had. I decided to try one today and was struck by the "middle of the road" properties that I saw. The blade did't feel sharp. It didn't feel smooth. But, it also didn't feel dull or jagged. The blade did not seem to excel or disappoint in any manner. However, I got t least a DFS and probably a BBS shave this morning. No nicks, cuts or weepers.

I performed a one-pass shave last night, so I was still fairly close this morning. So what did I do? I enjoyed another two-pass Saturday morning shave going mostly XTG and ATG. I'm comfortably smooth, just in time to watch the cartoons! I'm on shave number 7 with this blade, and it did just fine. I'll change it for tomorrow's shave only because it's easy to remember to change the blade on Sunday.

    Have a relaxing Saturday!

Still Traveling with a Mastro Livi CarboInox

I am still enjoying shaving with this Mastro Livi CarboInox razor as this is the razor I brought with me this time. And I am still enjoying the super smooth and close shave this straight razor can give. I used one of the most popular Italian shaving soaps - Cella - and, once again, it proved to be a very good tallow based soap, one of the best we have in Italy. The refreshing touch of my Thyrrenus after shave has been the usual soothing ice massage with a great cooling effect on the skin and a lovely refreshing touch.
    • Pre-Shave: RazorGuy Pre-Shave Oil
    • Soap: Cella Shaving Soap
    • Brush: Optim'Hom J-082 Synthetic
    • Bowl: Chinese Bowl
    • Strop: Mastro Livi Loom Strop and Hand Palm
    • Razor: Mastro Livi CarboInox, 6/8 Full Hollow, Barber's Notch
    • Post-Shave: Alum Block
    • Post-Shave: Argan Oil
    • After Shave: RazorGuy Thyrrenus
  11. image.jpg Razor: Gillette 195 Fat Boy (f1) 1960 (5) (3)
Brush: Rubberset 400 #3 WD 24/50 Silvertip (Jedi Lightsaber)
Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue
Cream: Geo. F. Trumper's Coconut cream
    Blade: Feather (1)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black balm, Old Spice Lime original Shulton AS Frosted Glass 1960s
Put a dollop of Trumper's Coconut into my favorite OS mug, my Jedi Lightsaber with its nice backbone whipped up some nice warm lather. The soft brush felt good on my face and I really like the way the handle feels in my hand. My FB is still my favorite razor and as usual, made quick work in 2 passes. A little touchup on my neck ATG on 3 and done. I actually had enough lather left over for 2 more passes. The WH felt good, nice and cool. After cleanup some JB and when it dried, some Vintage Old Spice Lime from the 1960s. Used my favorites today and it was a great shave. It must have been the Force......
