Well if I'm not gonna shave on a particular day, that would be as good a reason as any!

    September 6

Batch 2 Mongoose with Dr. Bomber handle
    Feather Professional blade (1)
    Shavemac two-band silvertip brush
    Trumper's Coconut cream and glycerin
    Two passes
Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Trumper's Coral Skin Food

I had an interesting shave this morning using a new Feather blade in the Mongoose. When I loaded the new blade, I didn't match the top cap in place correctly to the base plate. The blade was positioned correctly on the base plate, but the top cap was pushed forward slightly. This resulted in more blade exposure and a much more aggressive shave. It felt similar to shaving with my Feather AC kamisori. I got a very close shave and a few small weepers. Lesson learned - the hard way. :angry032:

I'd like to dedicate this shave to Neal @NCoxSTL , as he was my inspiration. And to the rest of you, "don't try this at home!"

I hope your shave is more relaxing than mine. :)

    SEPTEMBER FOCUS -SE RAZORS

    Razor: Schick Model J (shortened)
    Blade: Schick
    Brush: WD silvertip
    Soap: Stirling Sharp Dressed Man

Thanks to the suggestions from the September Focus Crew today's shave with the J was the closest so far. I really, really made the angle as shallow as possible and that helped. Very good result, DFS. I was a little too aggressive, though, as I was reminded when the AS went on. Oh well, I'm still learning.

Another question: Do these J's and my G open for cleaning? It looks like it, but I can't figure it out.

To my knowledge the Hydro Magic J will open but the non Hydro J will not.

First off a big thank you to Mark @Boojum1 for letting me take Ocho out for it's maiden voyage. You can read about "Ocho" here http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/ocho-a-rubberset-400-restore.46886/

Ocho was great whipping up enough lather for 5 passes. Luckily only 3 passes and a small touch up were required for a BBS. Finished off with a splash of Fine L'Orange and I am ready for the day.

That wouldn't happen with Batch 3. I'm glad you made it out with out any real damage. :)

That may be the reason for the changes in the Batch 3 razors. Glad you made it through reasonably unscathed.

Prep: Hot Shower. Axe Energizing Face Wash Boost TSE shaving oil
Razor: Mongoose B3 Dr. Bomber Handle
    Blade: Feather Super Pro
    Brush: Stirling Synthetic
    Lather: MdC
Post: Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate
    Aftershave: Fine Clean Vetiver
Oh how I love this shave. This is my gold standard Sunday shave. IMO it doesn't get much better. The Feather Super Pro has started to mellow out some, which is perfectly fine with me. The Stirling Synthetic is a joy to use, whipped up MdC into a mountain of goodness.

We've talked about this knot quite a bit and I think I figured it out after using it today. This knot is just like a Shavemac Finest. Maybe a little more dense. Good backbone, super soft tips, excellent flow thru and super luxurious face feel.

Glad you made it thru without too much damage. Now the Super Pro will be tame in comparison. ;)

Agreed. Much like the Shavemac Finest but much cheaper and with faster delivery.

CVS or Walgreens should have blades.

    Hey Herm,
First off check out this page for a description of all schick razors.
Hint: it doesn't seem like the G opens up; the J will - depending on what model you have.

The more modern Schicks that open use a lever mechanism called Hydro-Magic. I have one on both my I2 and J3 razor. Check out the photos.

    Top to bottom:: J3, I2, G1

You can see the lever on the J3 and I2.. It simply lifts up and lifts the top of the head to expose the blade to clean it better the blade cannot be taken out this way, but it is a nice feature if you've had a few days between shaves.

There was an earlier system with some of the D and E razors where the spring moved to expose the blade for cleaning as well. I haven't used one of those before so I don't know exactly how it works.

September 4th - week one focus Jordon hollow
Razor: A.J. Jordan 5/8 full hollow straight
    Strop: drygulch horse hide strop
    Brush: Omega 48
    Bowl: Knock Out Shave
    Soap: Stirling soap
    Post shave: alum, cold water
    Stirling unscented post shave balm
    Growth: 1.5 days

    Shave 3
Friday night shave, decisions decisions. Which soap to use!?! As there's more on the way (my name is Eric, and I'm a shave soap-acohlic). When with a lavender-ish scent this evening. Had the time to really focus Friday night. First thing I noticed, the Jordan doesn't seem to be as smooth with more than 1 day growth. Thursday morning got a great smooth shave with it, but Friday night, not so much, not bad after the 2nd xtg pass, but clearly not as good of a 1st pass as one day of growth. Maybe Kevin or Adam can comment on that discovery (@Drygulch, @HolyRollah).

The third atg on face and xtg de on neck left a great bbs evening.
    Cheers,
    Eric

Almost have the gold standard dialed in for me. Close race between Simpson cream (peppermint rosemary) and Stirling barbershop.

I think Target might have some as well. I believe the CVS brand DE blades are made by Personna.
