I opened my G1. the spring way very stiff but I got it loose and opened it up. I cleaned as well as I could then I put it back. It works really great and I get some of my best shaves out of it.

Whoa, thanks for the lesson @DDuckyMark !
I didn't think the G1 was designed to be opened by the user! :happy088:

I'm honored (?) to have a bad shave dedicated to me which may make me the "Patron Saint of bad shaves". And I applaud you for pushing forward with a setup you know is a bit off and seeing what happens. That's the kind of adventurous spirit that will land you a place in the Fellowship of the Bloody Shave! We meet fairly regularly around here. I'll send the secret password and handshake as soon as I finish with the styptic!

It probably isn't but I did it anyway. I got mine for less then $10 shipped so if I messed it up I didn't mind much. It had a scratch where the spring had been rotated away so I gave it a shot and it paid off for me.

It had pretty sizable clumps of rusty hair filled soap in every spare space on the razor and the cream colored razor looked like tortoise shell from the dirt. It cleaned up very nicely but I wouldn't have felt like I could safely use the razor if I hadn't taken it apart and made sure it was clean.

Razor - Feather SS Artist Club
    Blade - kamisori.jpg (1)
    Brush - BoS Omega 10066
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post - Cold Water, Alum, Nivea Original Replenishing Post Shave Balm

The first Sunday of SEptember arrives and my schedule says use the Feather SS. Well who am I to argue with a schedule? Nothing new about me using that razor anyway. However, the blade choice is different. Rather than a Kai Mild, as usual, or even a Feather Pro I'm going to try out a different blade altogether. The Kamisori blade, made in Canada, is a totally unknown item to me. I did track it down on the web to determine it really is made in Canada but I have no idea of quality, performance etc. So, the best way to find out is to load it up and shave with it. What could possibly go wrong?

Before loading it I did compare it to the Kai Mild that I normally use. The Kamisori is on top.
    kamisorikaimild.jpg
The shape is a bit different and the cutting edge is rounder on the ends. Also, the cutting edge is just a bit shorter on the Kamisori. It almost looks like half a blade instead of being made that way but comes in a dispenser as just a single blade. Well, 25 to a dispenser, so I believe that's just the design that makes it look like a half. When I loaded it I noticed that the blade doesn't extend quite to the end of the razor head at the heel. So, getting up close to ears etc. with the heel might be a problem.

Lathered up the BoSFat and went to work. No issues with the lather at all. First few strokes weren't bad but it became evident that this blade is not as smooth or as sharp as the Kai. It isn't terribly dull, just not the same level as Kai and Feather. It produced a rather comfortable if a bit tuggy shave on two days growth that the Kai goes right through. No cuts though on the first pass so let's try a little XTG. Second pass wasn't bad either, just that feeling of tugging. Not as smooth as I'm used to. Still it got CCS after two with ease and left me to just touch up with a DE to get DFS and have a great shave out of it. No nicks, cuts, weepers. Nothing. I'm going to call this blade a success. Thanks to the Canadians for making a decent blade. Not top of the line but it's less expensive and may help some who can't afford the others.

    SEptember Focus Day 6:

    Homemade PS Oil
    Stirling Synthetic Brush
    TSD Lanolin Egyptian Spice
    Injector Type G
    Stirling Unscented PSB

After a lot of willing my beard to grow, I had enough stubble for a shave this morning. I was careful not to repeat yesterday's mistake, so I did not get a BBS this morning. I did get a DFS, though, and with less irritation. This razor definitely has some potential, and it is a smooth shaver. The weight is a bit of a challenge, in that it is so light, but I have resisted the urge to use pressure.

Thanks for the well wishes. Those crummy Batch 3 razors simply aren't adjustable like Batch 2. :happy102:

It was complete operator error on my part. I will pay extra attention to blade and head alignment the next time I change blades. After I place the blade on the base plate, I usually put the top cap on and hold the assembled head between the thumbs and index fingers of both hands. I move the plates back and forth until they click in place before I install the handle. This is what I forgot to do. I hope I don't get kicked out of the Mongoose Razor Owners Society.

Clint, I still look forward to trying the Super Pro blades. I hope to have them in time for next Sunday's blade change. If you don't hear from me after next Sunday, you'll know that I had another learning experience. :shocked003:

Neal, I knew something wasn't right, but I kept going. That's troubling. It was actually a pretty good shave, just aggressive like my Feather AC SS. About half way through the first pass, I thought about you and some of your shaves. That's even more troubling. I'll look for you at the meetings.

Yeah if I come to mind when you're holding a razor it's probably best to abandon the shave and seek therapy. Or at least find your happy place to retreat to for awhile.

Today was day one with my Schick Type B1 Magazine Repeating Razor. I bought this razor just because the mechanism is way cool. To be able to load a magazine with blades and pump them through the razor is just something I had to have. I was blown away with how pretty this razor is when I got it as they just don't design things like this anymore.

I put a modern Schick blade in it for today's shave and was pleasantly surprised to find it shaves well too. I got a very nice three pass shave with it and plan on using it for a few more days of my focus.

I'm waiting for an OC version that I'll get into the rotation this month or next.

    Cool!
I have visions of making it an option for travel. Seems it could be fairly convenient if the shave is quality. Though I have heard that NOS blades are very rough and new blades are a different width, which could jam the mechanism. We'll see.

I assume you loaded your blade manually today? How was it?

I am hand loading the new blades because of this concern. The NOS are just for play
