Thank you sir for the kind words! @GDCarrington was definitely the man who inspired all this, his writings made this possible.

Have you ever given up on a razor as a daily shaver because it was too efficient? My Schick G experience is kind of similar.

You just described my initial intro to the Schick G! I don't own a Gem, so don't have much help.:(

You just described my intro to Schick G! I am talking bout your rough shave on the gem as being like my first couple days on the G.

Completely forgot you were not using soap and brush at all. Definitely make the switch to soap and brush. I used everything I had, brush, several soaps etc, along with several blade types for a month before doing my actual 30 day rule just to get familiar with everything. Like @Bama Samurai said do a mental restart using the equipment you are getting and you will be much happier!

They may have! I didn't try them until June. :D

I’ve always had good luck with the Astra SP. But I didn’t start with them. I went 14 days with the Shark Super Stainless and then 14 days with Derby before I tried the Astra SP. I find them very smooth. Usually the first blade I try with a new razor. I’m sure they’re not are as sharp as some others though.

    1953 (Y3) Tech
    Vulfix Super Badger (660)
    Noxzema
    C.O. Bigelow cream
    Aqua Velva Ice Blue

Shave #2 with the Astra Superior Platinum in my birthday Tech. Very much like yesterday's shave. Applied Noxzema as a pre shower application. Used an almond size dollop of C.O. Bigelow to each side of my neck and squeezed out the water from the well wetted Vulfix Super Badger brush and did a face lather. Added a hand scoop of water 3 times as I went. Thanks Bama Samurai! Had plenty of lather for the shave, but still a little drier than with the scuttle.
2 & 3/4 Full passes: Pass 1 WTG on my face and XTG on my neck. Passes 2: ATG. Comfortable shave. Not as close as with the Old Type at this point, but a near DFS. Did a cold water rinse and lathered most of my neck and jawline and again went ATG for a 3/4 pass. Then did cold water rinse followed by touch up. Seemed BBS at this point. I thought I might have pushed too far on my neck, but the Aqua Velva was quiet again this morning.
Another comfortable BBS shave from the Astra SP in the Tech. I needed to do two touch ups to get there, with some areas hit 3 or 4 times, but I caught the baby.

Razor – Mongoose B2 with Jürgen Hempel Ti
    Blade – Feather Pro (5)
Brush – Olivewood with TGN Finest Fan
    Lather – TSD Yin Yang
Post - Witch Hazel and Fine L’Orange

Another fantastic 3 pass near BBS shave this morning. For me the Mongoose excels at quick drama free efficient shaves on work mornings. As usual the TSD soaps are great. If you have not tried them you should really consider giving them a try. Finished off with a splash of Fine L'Orange.

    SEptember Focus Day 9:

    Homemade PS Oil
    Stirling Synthetic Brush
    Latha SS
    Injector Type G
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Latha Post Shave

I tried a slightly different shave this morning. I went with a two pass shave, but made the second pass a XTG instead of ATG like I normally do. I came away with a DFS. I will definitely take it.

I think @Bama Samurai (though I am a bit confused with the exchange above :)) asked about a razor being too efficient for a daily shaver. I would say this razor is close to that for me. Two of the shaves I have gotten from this razor have left me absolutely BBS, but both of these shaves made the next day's shave almost unnecessary. I enjoy my morning shaves too much, so this could be a problem. Today's shave gave me a nice balance.

Clint, this shave started with a ProGuard on one side of my face, I quickly realized that I was wasting my time with this blade! I switched the blade out as fast as a NASCAR pit stop.
Chris!! La Toja Sensitive Shaving Cream is FANTASTIC! A small dab on my brush provided me enough for a 3 pass shave, slick, cushion-y, very easy to lather, the scent is a clean crisp soapy. I'm not normally a cream user but this stuff is great. I'll be bringing out my stick soon.
Yesterday I received my Gillette Vector (cartridge) I had to use it of course :) goodness I had a great head shave! I have a Gillette Atra handle coming Friday which will become my regular head shaver. Quick and smooth shave. Win!

I agree the Pro Guards just didn't work well enough for me to justify the increased cost. Depending on the type of shave I want I alternate between the Feather Pro and the Super Pro.
