Only the best for me! ;) I want everyone to know who is shaving with this fine piece of history. I am still surprised no one else picked up this razor with my name on it from the Bay a few weeks ago. I watched it for a couple of days, but some how it escaped the attention of everybody else. The $5 shipped was a little steep, but it became apparent this razor was meant for my Den, so I swooped in and got it.

image.jpg Razor: Gillette Old Type Open Comb Ball End NDC 1920s (from "The Weekender" by Metalfield kit)
Brush: Fuller Amber Badger 1920s -1940s
Mug: Old Spice Hull Pottery Mug 01 1938 - 1944 the first mug
    Cream: TOBS Grapefruit cream
    Blade: Feather (1)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black Balm, Old Spice original Shulton 1956 glass AS Stopper #3, Old Spice original Shulton 1947 glass Talcum powder (ship Mt. Vernon sailing to right)

Celebrating my acquisition of my Old Spice Hull Pottery Mug 01, the First mug, wow! So I'm using a lot of vintage shave items going all the way back to the 1920s.
The TOBS whipped up nicely with the Fuller brush, that I got NOS in the box. I use everything I have, and even this rare Old Spice Hull mug will get used, but not very often. The Gillette Old OC is a nice razor, but it is rather aggressive with my blade of choice, the Feather. I just have to be careful with this light razor, and use no pressure. Very nice two pass shave with some touchup. Warm water rinse and pat dry. Some WH and after cleanup some JB Balm and then a little OS talc from 1947. Finished with some vintage Old Spice AS from 1956, nice. Y'all have a good one!

RAZOR: GILLETTE SUPER SPEED FLAIR TIP
    BLADE: POL SILVER (5TH SHAVE)
    BRUSH: FINE ANGEL HAIR SYNTHETIC
SOAP: OGALLALA BAY RUM SAGE & CEDAR (bombed)
    POST: CAPTAIN'S CHOICE LIME

Had a quick 2 pass shave today. I added some menthol glycerin to the Ogallala's to add some cooling to the mix. I also don't think I have ever tried a mentholated bay rum soap, it turned out pretty good considering Ogallala is not the slickest soap around, but it is a great value and the scent is good. It pairs nicely with the Captains Choice Lime which has a bite to it. Not too bad, but you will notice it for sure. Hope everyone has a great shave and a great day!!

I saw it on there but decided that since my name wasn't Jim to pay an extra $2 and get the unengraved version. I'm glad it found a good home. I'm also very glad I have mine, its one of my best shavers.

My 50 silver blue blades turned up and I couldn't wait to use them. Used a soap I haven't used in a long time and had a very nice shave.

Norseman misunderstood Dark Lord of the Sith

    Wednesday 09.09.2015

I traded a bar of Klar Kabinett with a bar of Dusy Kabinett with Mr @Primotenore a short while back

As most of you know Klar Kabinett was a German soap of excellent quality that was sold by the pound for right around 20 euros or so. It was discontinued in 2014 I believe and was quickly sold out. I even bought a full kilo myself.

The soap was "flavoured" with a nice rose scented, but as Bette Midler has pointed out on more than one occasion, every rose has its thorn. And for me the Klar Kabinett could have a vicious sting to it

Enter the Dusy Kabinett Soap. It is very similar, has more or less the same scent, is sold by the pound and according to online sources lathers and feels identical to the Klar soap. It is not known if it is the same soap, a clone, a sibling or just a distant relative. The ingredient list is similar, but apparently there are some differences.

And that is what I am more or less what I am looking for in this shave. Since my reaction to Klar Kabinett is seldom a positive one, I was hoping there was enough of a difference that I could enjoy the Klar Kabinett shave without the Klar Kabinett hangover.

I was considering using it as a shave stick, or a two by four as the case would be, but opted for bowl lathering instead. I wanted more control over the lather building process, and I think that was a wise choice.

I loaded the brush for about fifteen seconds and started building the lather. The familiar Kabinett scent filled the room and the lather was creamy and delicious. Transferring the brush to the face was an absolute joy. No sign of irritation or burning at all and the shave was very enjoyable.
The razor and blade cut through my two day stubble like nothing. The lather felt very slick and protective, no sign of either malice or ill will.

I will need to use it further to determine if I can include it in my regular rotation. I am also tempted to lather up both the Dusy and the Klar and use them side by side.
I will have to consider that for a later shave.

As a reward I treated myself with a few drops of La Toja. It is not so bad despite having the same name as a lesser known member of the Jackson family. Luckily it is less of a Thriller than its namesake. If it where, I would just tell her to beat it. I have enough of a problem with the man in the mirror to worry about that smooth criminal.

    Razor: Edwin Jagger de89
    Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (3)
    Brush: Proraso Boar Brush
    Soap: Dusy Kabinett
    Aftershave: La Toja

Great review and here's to no more thorns with the roses!
BTW, for a Norseman, your English is terrific.
