September 11th SOTD (Shave 6 of this focus) Two days’ growth Preshave: Hot Shower Razor: Case Red Imp 133 Strop: Drygulch Leatherworks Chromexcel Horse& Linen (20 laps linen/ 20 laps leather pre, 10 /10 post) Brush: Handturned Maple Badger Soap: The Holy Black Gunpowder Spice Postshave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, Thayer’s Witch Hazel Aftershave: The Holy Black Whisker Whiskey Gunpowder Spice Solid DFS today. BBS on my face and jawline, but not quite there on my neck. Stuck to my two pass and done. Managed to slice myself twice with the spike point. Other than those two cuts, the alum didn’t sting at all. Two pass and done seems to be the secret to no irritation for me. Need to work on getting my two passes to be more effective on my neck.

SOTD 911 Prep: Hot Shower. Axe Energizing Face Wash Boost Razor: Mongoose B3 Dr. Bomber Handle Blade: Feather Pro Brush: Stirling Synthetic Lather: La Toja Sensitive Shaving Cream Post: Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: RazoRock XXX I love La Toja shaving cream! Love. And I'm not a big cream guy. But this cream rocks! I'll be bringing out the stick soon. This is my 23rd straight shave with the Mongoose, all 23 have been good or better. I've not used an alum block or needed to use it. I've not had any irritation or nicks. I'd say the Mongoose is as close as perfect as one could get. IMO. Never let the things you WANT Make you forget the things you HAVE
September 11th , today was a eye opening experience with my shave routine. Everything worked together like a military operation.I am kicking myself trying to figure out why we don't teach this style of shaving or why men stopped. Oh on to the shave. Astra sp Weishi Omega s-brush Oagllala bay rum Bowl lather Cold water splash And bay rum AS BEST SHAVE EVER!!!!!! I thought I was getting a BBS before no no my friend this is a BBS shave. Hope everyone has a great day.
Today I switched from my Gem Micromatic to my Ever Ready 1912. The first thing I noticed is how much feedback this razor gives. I could definitely tell when it was cutting. I got a very nice two pass shave with some cleanup on the neck. Not BBS but still a DFS. SOTD Ever Ready 1912 Gem Blade TOBS Grapefruit Cream AOS AS Balm Florida Water AS Happy Friday!
I now have the PAA Otra AS to go with the soap. Smells good! Since I was going to switch soaps today I decided that I would spend some extra time making sure my lather was good. Loaded for a 15 count and used the water from the soap to build the lather. Turned out good, but added a little more water for some extra slickness. Out comes the Fatip with the Derby blade. Slapped the lather on and away I went. Slight sticking with this blade on day 2 so I dunked the razor. Seemed to fix it. Should've stuck with the 2 pass. This AS has alum and menthol added I think. Whew. The burn! Great shave and nice results. DFS on the neck and BBS on the face, but the AS lit me up and 2 weepers opened up after the cold rinse and AS. Didn't feel them at all though. I'll call it good and stick with 2 passes unless it's been a day or two between shaves.
Is that an older bottle? I'm a bit of an aftershave junkie and have been buying aftershave since the beginning (3 years)
Razor: Valet Auto Strop Model "C"- 1935-40/ Gillette 1958 TV Special(4) Feather blade) Blade: Valet New Process (4) Brush: Frendrihen Silver Tip Badger Faux Horn Handle 22/49 Soap: RazoRock XXX A/S: Old Spice Cannon Decanter Product ID #4356-1973 Day 11 Another DFS this evening with this combination. I think I prefer TSD soap over RazoRock, but this soap is incredibly easy to build into a great lather. This has been a great focus this month.
Day 3 of 7-day Test Drive My third consecutive shave using this fine razor. With two shaves under my belt (there's that unfortunate idiom being used again in a shaving context! ), I'm feeling more and more confident in my use of this Mastro. Unlike yesterday's shave where I managed to earn a small nick from the point, this morning's effort provided just an über-close shave with no irritation. I failed to mention in my other two postings about the sound this razor makes. The large full-hollow blade is quite resonant during the shave! Most full-hollows make a distinct shaving sound as the edge slices off the stubble and this large Damascus blade is no exception. Noisy and sharp! The most challenging pass for me using this razor is the 'ear to chin' pass due to my getting acclimated to the spanish point on this razor. I'm used to hollow, square, round, even sharp spike points—but this forward-leading tip has me 'on edge' carefully navigating it so as not to catch it on my cheek. Practice, practice, practice... Three down, four to go! Making a Damascus blade: definitely 'old school' where all manner of shop protection (gloves, ear plug, safety googles and masks) are deemed unnecessary...
Congratulations! Glad it all fell in place for you. A few more shave like that and you'll really be hooked.
What do you mean "a few more" I'm already really hooked. Those razors I learnt (I'm from Georgia) on don't even begin to compare hell even on the same planet as the shave I had today. Now my dad did pass away before he was able to teach me to shave but still I was toght to use the "cartridge" razors.....why!?!? they suck plan and simple (in my opinion) if you have to shave every day as I do,this it the way to do it....don't dread it ..embrace it and enjoy it......just my two cents
September 11, 2015 Morning shave Hot Shower Soap: Proraso Green Brush: Omega Pro 48 Razor: Schick Type E - Canada Blade: Schick Injector (China) (5) TSD Witch Hazel Aftershave Cream: Proraso After Shave: Proraso Green Fifth shave with the Canadian Schick Type E, same blades and same great result as past couple of shaves. Actually got 2-pass, near-BBS in less than 15 minutes as I was rushing to get out of the house. Mrs. Firefly and I have zipped away for a quick 3-day sojourn into the wine country of Washington. All my shave gear has stayed behind, so I'll be cultivating a good growth of whiskers for my next SE of the month, probably a PAL adjustable. So no posts from me until then. Enjoy your shaves and keep the porch light on for me! Cheers! RT
