What a shave, what a GREAT shave. I had so much rich, slick, beautiful lather from Rod's magnificent Barbershop soap and perfect skincare. The scent reminds me 100% of a real old-school barbershop!

    Go Green Shave
Today's shave is a celebration of the victory of my alma matter, MSU, over Oregon last night. This win avenges one of our three losses in the last 28 games. These last few years have been the best in school history.
I started off with Van Yulay PSO over which my HIS made excellent lather from Maggard's Limes and Bergamot. This yogurty layer prepared my stubble to meet its fate at hands of my 1959 Fatboy, armed with a four shave veteran Voskhod blade and a 9-7-7 progression. After the last of my whiskers met their doom, I splashed on some Fine Platinum and Shea Moisture balm. The finishing touch was a small spritz of Spicebomb.

Mastro Livi CarboInox Snake, 8/8 Full Hollow, Snake Point

Shaving with this Mastro Livi CarboInox Snake Razor is always an incredible joy. Made from the well known Mastro Livi CarboInox Damascus, with its inlaid carbon damascus blue dots, the special and beautiful scales, it is a magnificent and elegant show. Not to mention how this snake razor shaves: very deep, super close, with its keen edge capable of giving the best and smoothest shave! I also wanted to use some of the shaving stuff I make at home: my pre-shave oil, my shaving soap and my beloved Bay Rum aftershave. I must say they make a superb job: the oil prepares the skin to receive the soap and razor, the soap provides a huge amount of super slicking, rich and creamy lather, the Bay Rum gives a beautifully refreshing and soothing touch with its caribbean fragrance of pimenta racemosa. What a great, luxurious and sumptous shave!

    SUNDAY
Day 5 of 7-Day Test Drive
Another smooth shave this early Sunday morning from the Mastro. I backed off a little from yesterday's BBS attempt and only attempted the typical 3-pass shave. My efforts were rewarded with a DFS!
After using this large razor for a week, it may feel odd going back to a standard-sized one!
    Have a blessed Sunday, all!

    Sunday 13.09.015

Wouldn't you know I managed to squeeze in a midday shave. It wasn't planned, but it was a nice surprise and a real treat,

Today's shave featured the Coconut soap from Natural Mike's. I have always been quite pleased with his soaps, but always felt that I did not experience the slick lather that this soap is so famous for and that I am supposed to use a lot of water when building this lather. I have never felt the need to use a whole lot of H2O to make a perfectly usable lather, but since I am not a Fremen I have no need to preserve my water.

Therefore, I soaked my largest boar brush in my lathering cup, put a couple of teaspoons on the puck, took a long wasteful shower and started building the lather.

First I emptied the cup and transferred the excessive water from the puck over to the cup and started using the famed Maro's Method to load the brush.

I loaded the brush for about 60-80 seconds before working the lather in the cup and it more or less exploded with lather. It looked a little airy, but felt very creamy and elastic to the touch.

I have only one open comb razor and I seldom shave with it. Mostly because I forget I have it, and that ought to be a criminal offense. It is a very mild and comfortable razor. For me it works best if I have a two or more days worth of stubble, like today. The first pass was very good, but its lack of aggressiveness comes into play in the third pass when it fails to give me a particularly close shave.

It is sufficient for everyday use, and I would probably be happy with it if it were my only razor. But for those special occasions it is not the best choice. An ATG pass would probably counter that, but not everybody is comfortable with that.

I enjoy Bay Rum and the choice from some Captain that is probably not a real Skipper, was my choice for today. This is a favourite of many, but to me it reminds me more of Bay Rumolade than an aggressive aftershave. It is, or maybe was marketed as a powerful aftershave that will give you quite a sting to your aftershave experience.
Personally I get more sting out of crying in the rain, unless I have happened to have a particularly rough shave.
    It smells pretty good though.

    Razor: Merkur 1904 OC
    Blade: Wilkinsons Indian Sword
    Soap: Mike's Natural Coconut Soap
    Brush: Proraso Boar Brush
    Aftershave: Captain's Choice Bay Rum

MDC Lavender w/ a touch of TOBS Rose
    Rapira Platinum Lux blade

    3 passes

The urge to use MDC overpowered me this morning. MDC is without a doubt the best soap I have ever used. 3 passes, BBS, and 0% irritation.

I'm still not back a 100% since my head injury but pretty close. My memory has improved a great deal but I have a short fuse and some nasty head aches which isn't normal for me. Shaving wise, I've been living a monastic life. Just a couple of razors and a couple of soaps and brushes. I'll be back on a more regular basis. Have a good day!

Brush: Jerusalem Olive Wood/WD Silvertip 24/48
Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue
    Cream: Truefitt&Hill No 10
    Blade: Feather (2)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera, Jack Black balm, Halston Z-14 cologne
Whipped up the Truefitt&Hill No 10 in a minute with the Silvertip. Nice slick cushion and I really like the scent. The heavy handle and head gave me a nice smooth shave with no pressure with a Feather blade set on 5. WTG and XTG on my face and neck. Then ATG set on 3. Very smooth. The Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera felt good on my face and that natural scent was nice and fresh. After cleanup, I smoothed on some Jack Black, and then some Halston Z-14. Y'all have a good one!
