  4. September 15 Focus Shave 12

3 good passes but a couple of weepers on my chin, I think it is from pimples. It felt like a solid DFS after the 3 passes but I need BBS today so I finished with my BBS-1 DE. BBS but some irritation, not sure if it was the straight or the DE

    Proraso Pre Shave
    AoS sandalwood
    Shavemac silver tip
    Dovo Bismark 2 / BBS-1 DE
Dry Gulch paddle strop (horse) after the Crox
Alum block to keep my fingers dry

    Razor: C. V. Heljestrand, "No 24" 5/8 Quarter Hollow
    Strop: drygulch horse hide strop
    Brush: WSP Silvertip Badge
    Bowl: KO shave mug
    Soap: Stirling Sharp Dressed Man
Post shave: cold water, alum, Stirling Sharped Dressed Man post shave splash
    Stirling unscented post shave balm
Growth: 1 and 1.5 days respectively

    Shave 8 and 9
Saturday morning shave - goal shave without curing myself again. Love the down stroke with the duck but cut myself east of my mouth twice in two consecutive shaves. The 24 was kind to me. No nicks or cut.

1st pass on cheek was perfect. Listening to soothing classical music just added to the enjoyment. I still feel unsure of myself when going S/N with my non-dominate hand but everything else was like clockwork. BBS thank you very much

1st - WTG: N/S on face and neck
    2nd - XTG: E/W face
    3rd - ATG/XTG: w/ Merkur Progress DE with Derby (1 shave)
4th - clean up (buffing on jawline)

    Cheers,
    Eric

  12. On community:

What makes certain forums special is their inclusion of all who share the passion. The fact that we all gather here is pretty neat. We are all different men, in different places, living different lives...probably believing different things. Being able to gather here and share the knowledge, the humor, and sometimes even our hardships is a precious thing. I have never been a part of a more friendly and encouraging group as the thing we have going on here. Always think of the others first. Always be thoughtful in reaction, and quick to help when asked. Stay involved, and you'll always be involved. But most of all, realize when something is precious.

    Guard that which is precious.

You may now resume the regularly scheduled shenanigans. and pass the cookies....

  13. Talk about lyrics. This one gives you the lyrics, but it's still almost unintelligible. Especially after several cold ones.

  16. It's interesting that they were coming up at the same time as the Dead and Jefferson Airplane in SF. They totally rejected psychedelic rock in favor of a Southern roots sound that is more Memphis and New Orleans than Fillmore West. It worked out for them.
  17. True. They had that swamp rock sound, but even still managed to work a little psychedelic in every now and then. Just listen to the lyrics to Looking out my back door.
  18. for a time in HS, I would fall asleep to the LP "Surrealistic Pillow" by Jefferson Airplane, a standard in what the psychedelic sound was in the mid sixties. I was really more talking about the pure stylistic differences, but CCR was definitely a product of their age. Skynyrd was a band that truly did both styles all at once (Simple Man), much like the Allman bros. CCR was also quite socially conscious in their lyrics (Born on the Bayou, Fortunate Son) and can't be separated from the anti war movements.
  19. 1953 (Y3) Tech
    Vulfix Super Badger (660)
    Proraso Sandalwood cream
    Aqua Velva Ice Blue

Shave #2 with the Gillette Silver Blue in my birthday Tech. A comfortable BBS shave.
    IMG_1474.JPG
Face lathered, then did 2 full passes: Pass 1 WTG on my face and XTG on my neck (wings to center today). Pass 2: ATG. Did a cold water rinse followed by a few targeted touch ups in my problem areas and caught the baby. The Aqua Velva complained for a bit and caused a couple of my trouble spots to show some stubble. Did a cold water splash and a touch up recaptured the baby.

Another nice BBS shave from the Gillette Silver Blue in the Tech.

    SEptember Focus Day 16:

    Homemade PS Oil
    VDH Boar Brush
    Cella
    Gem G Bar
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Proraso AS

I really slowed down and took my time this morning. I watched the angles, in fact I went really shallow this morning, and I was careful to use no pressure. The result: a DFS with no irritation. It was a really great shave this morning. I ran a bit late, but it was probably the most enjoyable pre work shave I have had in a long time. It almost felt like a weekend. Have a great Wednesday; mine is off to a great start.
