A fantastic 2 pass near BBS shave this morning. I decided to go back to my previous routine with the Super Pro going ATG for the 1st pass and the XTG for the 2nd pass with a few touch ups. This really works for me on work mornings since I can get a very quick and very close shave. Finished off with the a splash of Myrsol Formula C sampler.
  2. Looking out My Back Door was written as a silly song for his daughter. I sing it to mine sometimes, and it always makes her laugh. I am still trying to figure out how to play it on my mandolin.
  3. Love those mornings

Prep: Hot Shower. Axe Energizing Face Wash Boost.
Razor: Gillette Super Speed 1953 Y2
    Blade: Personna Lab Blue
    Brush: L'Occitane Plisson
    Lather: La Toja Shave Stick
Post: Alum block Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate
Aftershave: Folsom & Co. Shady Past
The La Toja shave stick is great! If you don't have one I highly recommend you buy one. Now I know why Chris is using it as much as he is. Super Speed.. I paid for it. My lower neck is red and on fire! Operator error. Nice clean shave, I just need more time with this razor. DFS was had. Tomorrow I'm back with the Mongoose. Happily. :) I found my focus for next month. I'm not an OC guy.

  5. So my face was still smooth 12 hours later. Couldn't justify hitting it with a blade this morning so that's saying something.
  6. So on Monday, I wasn't sure I had gotten a great shave, so I called it a DFS. 36 hours post shave, I barely had a five O'clock shadow. However, this morning when I went to wash my face, I opened one of the Spike tip cuts on my chin, and decided to hold off on the shave for today. Still pretty amazed with how effective Monday's shave was, due to the fact that I can get away with not shaving for the two days afterwards. I look a little scruffy this morning, but still better than most of the men I work with as far as shave goes.
  7. I do too. Today was one of those days when I reminded myself why I started waking up a little earlier to take my time shaving. Unfortunately, with my previous work assignment a few months ago, I lost that experience and habit and resorted to rushing. I think today will motivate me to get up the extra few minutes to do it right.
  8. You may not want to be a forum vet, but I think you will find that a lot of us consider you to be one. I know I have learned a lot from you over the past several months.
  9. That's a pretty good deal. Don't have to shave after a couple days. It's cost savings too!
  10. And I get to be a half-witted, scruffy, nerf-herder at work today!
  11. I to wake up earlier just to be able slow down and take my time.I'm glad your able to do this once again
  12. I'm really starting to like this G-Bar. Nice irritation free shaves.

  13. We'll be awaiting the video of you strumming and your daughter singing/dancing!

  14. He's a forum vet with a newbie's curiosity - probably like anyone who stays on this thread for more than 6 months or so.

Others like Chris and Neal have said this before...that it's not about finding your white whale and staying just with it forever, day after day - it's the experience of the journey to experiment and explore their passion.

Personally, I may not be quite there, but in the few months I've been here I've come to understand their passion as "permanent newbies!"

Schick Type C (Magazine Repeating Razor).
I’ve got two different types - I used the C3 (safety bar) yesterday, today I’ll us the C1 (open comb).

    Morning shave
    Hot Shower
    Soap: Arko stick
    Brush: Omega Pro 48
    Razor: Schick C1
    Blade: Schick Injector (China) (1)
Thayers Lemon & Aloe Witch Hazel
    After Shave: Myrsol Limon

Another great two-pass shave similar to the one yesterday with the C3.
I could not really tell any difference between the two with just one shave on each. There is something cool though about the looks of an open comb.

As I mentioned yesterday, I’m interested in these because of their compact design, making it a very good candidate for a travel razor.

Tomorrow I begin to test a few of my GEM razors.

    Cheers!

  16. I had to put my SE focus on hold due to lack of blades (or lack of planning, take your pick). So today I pulled out my trusty Red Tip. Very nice , effortless DFS. I must say I really miss my DE razors over the two injectors I've been using. BUT, I will continue my focus Saturday when I'll get out the Star (much like a Gem 1912).

  17. I like that..."permanent newbie". I think I'll make that my official status! Thanks B.

  18. Thank goodness for the passion and curiosity of the people who have been here a while, and their willingness to share it with newbies like myself. The love of the hobby and art of shaving is truly contagious.

I was just about to say "permanent newbie" is exactly what I am striving for too.

  19. I definitely understand the "permanent newbie". That is partly why I chose the user name I did. This forum, and this thread in particular, have taught me a lot about shaving. One of the biggest lessons is I can learn something from everyone, so I will always be a newbie.

This forum, though, really instills a passion in me. The passion and attitude from the members is contagious and makes me want to keep getting better at my shaves (it also makes me want to buy more stuff). It is just a great place to spend time.

  20. September 30 Day Focus--Blade Search

Sept 15 Yesterday's shave report. No shave today

    Razor -- Lord L6
    Blade -- GSB
    Brush -- VDH Boar
Soap -- Stirling Gin and Tonic
Post -- Cold water splash and WH

I finished the Ladas blade on the 14th (a truly wonderful blade for me) and had some trouble deciding on what blade to do next. Well, I decided to go back to the Gillette Silver Blue just so I could do a close in time comparison with the Ladas blade that performed so well and because it is always good to be reconnected with the blade that is my standard bearer so far. I also had an oral argument I had to do at the South Carolina Court of Appeals so I needed to make certain I had a good clean shave with no problems, and this blade/razor combination always delivers.

The GSB performed great as always. It is such a smooth shave and always results in a great DFS or BBS 2 pass shave. This one was DFS+ because of one small spot on my jaw line that appeared a couple hours after the shave. I think the GSB would top the Ladas by a slight margin still, but it is definitely close (the Ladas may end up becoming the blade I own the most of just because it is cheaper than the GSB). Will be starting with the Israeli Personna Red tomorrow morning (finally made a decision on which blade to do next).

Happy Hump Day and Happy Shaving!
