SOTD: Thursday, September 17 Klar Kabinett Simpson M6 Feather AS-D2 Polsilver SI (4) Thayer's Rose Witch Hazel St. Charles Bulgarian Rose Have a great day! Today was my first shave with Klar. My thanks go out to the Norseman, who kindly agreed to swap a chunk of Klar for a chunk of Dusy Kabinett. When I opened the envelope, my first thought was that he sent me back my Dusy! That's how similar they appear. Indeed, as I have since learned on this Forum, the ingredient list is almost identical. The only exception being that Klar is made with coconut oil and Dusy with Palm Oil. The fragrances are dead ringers. My nose could not discern any difference. I grated the 125g chunk with my cheese grater (no, I don't have a dedicated grater for soap...don't tell my wife ) and with my 58mm espresso tamper (ditto on the Hausfrau) pressed it into the above container. Klar is a very hard soap that should last me quite a while. That's a good thing seeing as it is no longer produced. Wish I knew why. As I do with all of my triple-milled soaps, I bloomed it whilst showering. I then pour the bloom water into a shaving mug and started my typical 30 sec. load. Klar loads well and leaves a nice proto-lather on the puck, which I scrape off with my index finger and apply to my face. Then I began working the lather, alternating oval strokes with back and forth painting strokes (I call it slapping, because that's what I do, slap the heck out of it ) One minuscule difference I noticed was that the Klar seems to be thirstier than Dusy. So I added more of the saved bloom water to the brush. I was able to dial in a correct water-soap ratio and the results were superb. All the time my olfactory sense is being treated to a magnificent rose. On to the shave. Cushion: Glide: Protection: Post-shave: I was able to buff and perform my slant-style motion (I have coined it the Primo Slide) with no dragging, slicing or dicing There was nothing that I didn't enjoy about this shave. I have seen other SOTD's with Klar, and I am sure they would concur: this is a top-tier soap. Thanks for reading! AND: Mange takk til Norseman!
Razor: Gillette 195 Fat Boy (f1) 1960 (5) (3) Brush: Jerusalem Olive Wood/WD Silvertip 24/48 Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue Cream: Truefitt&Hill Grafton Blade: Feather (1) Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Nivea Men Post Shave Balm, TOBS Luxury AS Whipped up a thumb nail size dollop of the T&H in my favorite mug with the Silvertip. My favorite daily driver the FB is hard to put away for another razor, because it shaves me so well. It's weight does all the work. WTG XTG on my face and neck on 5. ATG on my neck on 3. Nice and slick lather and with my FB on 3 for my neck I can buff a little on the hard to get to spots for a very nice smooth shave. Great cucumber smell with the WH, and then some soothing Nivea. After cleanup some TOBS Have a good one y'all.
Thanks for the review. Good creative use of the Kitchen Utensils too. I need to get an expresso tamper.
Thank you for your kind words, Clint! * UPDATE! Clint, I have just spoken to Michelle and she says the Sardinian Honey has not changed in scent. I believe a friend of mine thinks it has, but she is certain it has not, which is a very good thing!
17sep15 Ahhh... Back to a very good shave. Last few days I've been using the Gillette NEW LC with decent, but not great, results. Today I went back to the adjustable. I have found the FB to give me better results than the Slim's, but I still want to give them some use also... Especially the Black Beauty. I will say, I do like a shorter handle over the longer ones, especially when they are a thinner handle such as the Slim/BB. I set the BB on 4, not wanting to tear my face up anymore, but believe I could have gone to 5 with slightly better, faster, results. And the Barbacool AS.... Ahhh...nice.
My shave a couple of days ago. Prep: hot shower, Nivea Face Wash. Brush: Turkish #6. Razor: Gillette 40's Rocket. Blade: Personna Med Prep. Cream: Palmolive Menthol. Post: cold water rinse, Fine American Blend, Myrsol Emulsion. This shave was decent, but not the best. I have been out of the game for so long that my lather making skills have suffered. It wasn't as slick, but I didn't get a lot of irritation. My skin felt kind of aggravated, but Myrsol Emulsion calmed it down within a half an hour of applying it.
SHAVE OF THE DAY PREP: MUSGO REAL CLASSIC PRE SHAVE SOAP RAZOR: GILLETTE SUPERSPEED FLAIR TIP BLADE: LORD SUPER STAINLESS BRUSH: EVERREADY 600 SOAP: B&M Beaudelaire POST: MYRSOL BLUE BALM: MLS THE KRAKEN A/S MILK Had a great 3 pass shave today. 1st time with B&M soaps and both the performance and the scent were great. Very slick lather that was protective enough to do touch ups without any product. Did not quite get it BBS but pretty close and with minimal irritation. Hope everyone has a great shave and a great day!!
