Erstens, gute Besserung! Herzlich wilkommen hier ... ich bin mir sicher dass es dir hier bei uns gefallen wird
Thanks for the welcome guys! My thumb was the unlucky opponent fighting a metal exhaust gasket on a Fiat, the one from the downpipe flange to the middle pipe. Sliced my thumb open, then in the ER, they misdiagnosed it as just a superficial cut, sewed me up and sent me on my way. Well a few days later after the swelling died down a bit, I noticed that i couldnt really bend the tip of my thumb, so off to a specialist hospital. Got an MRi which revealed that the tendon was sliced. Had surgery on it, and now im off work for 12+ wks- surgery was 17 aug, so ive got another 8wks or so before im even allowed to do anything slightly strenuous with my hand. As far as shaving, Ive been straight shaving for several years now, so all the software I already have, but shaving one-handed with a straight isnt really doable, soooo i had a buddy that switched to DEs for work/travel and talked to him for a while, and ended up finding a few DEs at fleakmarkets and in the bay, and I traded a guy on here for 2 of my lesser/non used straights for 4 of his DEs. Given my previous straight usage, ive been used to a pretty aggressivve shave, so my 2 SA 109s, and my slim have only been dialed under5 one or 2 times when i started just to get the proper angle thing down. Ive been keeping them on 9-7 and usually get a BBS/DFS out of 2 passes + maybe a touch up. In the mentime ive got: H2 Slim X3 SA 109 (flea market-4€) P3 SA 109 B2 Blue tip X2 Black tip O1 Black SS and a English made II Rocket Parat (flea market-2€) Ive only used the 2 SAs and slim thus far, and prefer the X3 with the plastic head better, as there's less head weight. And the couple shaves ive had with the slim were very nice as well.
Funny...the same thing happened to me. Paper cutter accident, after it healed, my thumb wouldn't move. Back to the OR to reattach my tendon. It left me with a momento of the experience. Years later, I met someone else with the same scar. They were astonished when I asked, "paper cutter?" "How did you guess?" I showed him mine. "Personal experience."
Mine was on the inside of my thumb so it wasn't the tendon to stretch out rather to bend ones digit in. After the ER MRI After surgery My brace/splint
Ich arbeite bei einer Reifendienst. Ich muss ja schauen daß ich irgendwann wieder fit bzw kräftig genug bin, da wieder einzusteigen. ..
Welcome from Canada. I had tendon replacement surgery in my right thumb earlier this year and had a similar cast. good luck with your recovery.
Joe, Welcome to TSD. Glad you're making the transition to DE shaving and picking up some good gear at bargain prices to boot! The wound seems to be healing well, all the best for speedy recovery. Regards, Chris
